Steve was a great instructor, and I really dig his approach to educating. He tied together the various natural factors and human factors that lead to decisions in the mountains, and while explaining what to look for and watch out for in the conditions themselves, he also explained clearly what to look for and watch out for in your own thoughts and doubts, as well as the thoughts, doubts and fears of those around you. The two days were taught at a good pace and the material was well explained while still keeping the atmosphere light and friendly. I'd for sure look to BCAG again for more outings.

I really enjoyed this course. I walked away with a much better understanding of avalanche awareness, trip planning, equipment use (especially avalanche rescue gear), and group dynamics when planning and conducting a backcountry tour. I found the zoom meetings immensely more valuable than I had imagined and really enjoyed our field days. Thanks again for a wonderful and informative course. -Bradley Pazian

I had a fantastic time at this course! It was amazing being able to learn from Steve, Cheri, and Andrew as all three guides brought some incredible knowledge. I especially appreciated Steve’s ability to share detailed knowledge in an engaging way, while also being a really fun guy. Andrew was great at explaining concepts, and Cheri had a ton of enthusiasm and also brought really unique and awesome teaching abilities. The temperatures were incredibly cold this weekend - subzero temperatures for much of the time. The guides planned the excursions incredibly effectively and were still able to teach us skills while also managing the low temperature risks. They also clearly were discussing with each other the best decisions to make before and during the day, and were transparent with what they were talking about with each other in terms of figuring out the group’s skill level and finding the best way to accommodate everybody given the weather conditions. I was really impressed by their professionalism, knowledge, and kindness and I’m so glad that I signed up with BCAG. I’m excited to continue to get into backcountry skiing and to continue learning, and I may reach out to Steve and BCAG the next time I want to take another safety course or skiing course!

Love the instructors, both online (Ian) and in field (Cheri and Pablo). Very knowledgeable, passionate, and great teachers. The only reason not 5 stars is there were several mistakes in the emails sent out to students (wrong Zoom link kept several students and one instructor away, and wrong instructor names were sent out after the trip) and there could be a little better coordination among the instructors. Otherwise a fantastic course that I would still recommend to others.
