Amazing - Sister Pat is a wealth of information about Savannah's history of the slave trade. It was fascinating to learn about , and to learn how reluctant that city has been to openly acknowledge it and allow it to be a part of the city's history. The enactment by Sister Pat's colleague of a slave woman whose children are about to be sold away from her was incredibly moving and so powerful.

Facts and Truth about Slavery in Savannah - Sister Roz provided our group of 14 with a passionate description of the Atlantic Slave Trade, including the arrival of whole families of parents and children in Savannah. I was disgusted when hearing about the terrible conditions shackled slaves were exposed to for months as they were brought to be auctioned off like property to plantation owners, wealthy aristocrats and businesses. Held in brick vaults until auction day, Africans from the Ivory Coast, Ghana and other African nations were separated by skill set in inhumane conditions. Needless to say, this important history lesson is critical for all white families in understanding the truth of our country during the 17th and 18th centuries. Racism will not disappear on its own. Restitution can only occur if we are exposed to the facts of slavery.

Must-see in Savannah! - Sistah Patt is phenomenal!! I can’t think of a better way to learn about the history than through the living, breathing, truth-teller of a survivor of the Gullah Geechee tribe. Her knowledge and storytelling skills really blew me away. I loved it!

Personal promo or historical tour? - I was very excited to go on this tour as I really love learning about the history of a city. The tour started like any other with a short bus ride to the rivers edge and a brief discussion. However, I soon realized the tour was beginning to feel more like a self promotion of sister patt vs anything educational. As the tour “moved on” and we barely moved a full block in an hour, it was becoming even more apparent that I was learning nothing about the slavery of Savannah and more on personal opinions on how the city should be handling the history of events. We made stops and lightly discussed topics but NOTHING historical was actually discussed in detail, unless it had to personally do with Sister Patt and things she was directly involved in and again her opinion on the topic. The entire tour was very drawn out and we hardly walked anywhere, she apologized a couple of times and thanked everyone for their patience because we stood for so long in one spot. I left with more questions than ever before and I can’t say I actually learned anything about slavery in Savannah. I learned more about Sister Patt, the movie that’s coming out and her personal opinions on the city of Savannah. This tour really could be great, educational and provide so much more detail on the actual history of slavery in Savannah since as she mentioned the city hasn’t done much in sharing. My recommendation is leave the personal descriptions to the side and actually talk about the purpose of the tour, which was the Slavery to Freedom that we learned literally nothing about. We stood over such historical grounds and it’s such a waste to not actually discuss anything about them.
