Highlights
  • Sarchi - Enroute to the Arenal Volcano there will be a stop in the famous town of Sarchi, known as the birthplace of Costa Rica’s Artisans.

In Sarchi, you may very well see an ox cart that holds the title as being the largest ox cart in the world. The cart is made of wood (cedar) and is decorated with stunning colors, such as a bright orange. The design is typical and intricate, indicative of traditional oxcarts. The ox cart is two stories high and took 70 days to complete. The oxcart is also deserves an honorable mention in the Guinness book of world records.

  • La Fortuna - The journey will then continue, traversing diverse plantations with agricultural products, including pineapple farms, and mango groves, ornamental plants and cattle ranches until arriving to the small town of La Fortuna, and stopping to enjoy lunch at a cozy restaurant with a spectacular view of the Arenal volcano.
  • Arenal 1968 Volcano View & Trails - The impressive Arenal Volcano is a magnificent natural wonder that is situated in La Fortuna (The Fortune) of San Carlos, Costa Rica, providing thousands and thousands of tourists with the opportunity to witness volcanic activity, such as the white plumes of smoke that emanate from the conical shaped behemoth. It is important to note that the volcano had previously been assumed to be dormant, until in 1968, when it experienced a major eruption.
  • Baldi Hot Springs - Then you will go on to relax at one of the best hot springs in the area where you will enjoy the rejuvenating effects of the thermal waters, as well as an optional massage or other special treatment that must be reserved ahead of time.

The facilities at Baldi provided 25 separate mineral water reservoirs that flow naturally from the volcano. The medicinal waters are certified by L.N.A. (Laboratorio Nacional de Aguas), and the temperatures range from 93, 100, 102, 104, 109, 110, 113, 116, 152, providing clients with a wide range of options that fit their needs.

And for a perfect ending, before going back to San José, a wonderful dinner will be served with a great view of the volcano so that you do not miss any opportunity to look at the stunning and classically shaped volcano one more time.

A very full day of pura vida - Hot spring is amazing, especially with kids. Interesting the visit to Arenal volcano, but you can not see the crater. Long transfer with bus

Fantastic venture to Arenal - The drive was fun and bilingual, which I appreciated as a learner of Spanish. Seeing the ox cart was cool and something I wasn't sure if I'd like. The main event, for me, was the Arenal volcano which you can see up to 30 minutes to an hour before actually reaching the lookout point. There was time to take photos and walk a bit of the trails. More than enough time because it is a mountain essentially so it doesn't move. It was everything to be there though. Then, relaxing at the hot springs and dinner was a great way to close out. It is a very long excursion because of distance but very worth it.

Arenal Volcano and hotsprings day out - Great day out and a good way to see costa rica. Andrea was an execellent guidewith great energy and enthusiasm and a big mention to Edwin the driver who navigated the challenging road network so well! Also worth mentioning that both lunch and dinner was of a high standard and the hotsprings was a wonderful way to finish off a wonderful day.

Not that volcanish - First of all, the pick-up time was almost on time but I consider it should have started a little bit earlier to take advantage of surroundings and daylight. The views were amazing, we should had spent more time around though. The villages are cute but too much time there, I really expected to see more around the volcano area. It was rainy and cloudy, but that didn’t stop the amazing pictures and the good time spent there. If you go solo, avoid this kind of activities because you spent three long hours at the hot springs and honestly, you wouldn’t like it by yourself trust me, better if you go with friends or significant other. Food was ok, lunch service though, kinda moody the waiter, and dinner just ok. It was my birthday so I expected to do something extra with extra cost of course, but there’re weren’t any activities or amenities. But, I spent a wonderful time all in all.

Worthwhile tour, but a bit more touristy than expected - The trip was absolutely beautiful and the locations you get to visit are stunning and really enjoyable. While not a rating issue, it is good to note that the bus ride is about 3.5 hours each way, and after travel in between locations you are looking at about 9 hrs on the bus of the entire 15 hr trip. However the main reasoning for the rating is that most of the locations you visit are very tourist-centric and seem very commercialized other than the volcano lookout. I would have enjoyed the ability to hike a bit more and see some of the beautiful surrounding nature beyond just driving up to a location and looking out for 15 minutes rather than sitting at the springs for 3 hours. Regardless, the tour was absolutely worth the investment and, traveling all the way from San Jose, you can only expect to accomplish so much with the time available. 4.5/5 stars for me and highly recommend if you don’t have the ability to travel to La Fortuna for more than a day.
