Highly Recommend - If you take one tour in Sarajevo let it be this one. Mak is a phenomenal tour guide. Hearing about the siege and seeing where it took place, woven with the personal stories of a survivor is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I honestly can’t recommend this tour enough. I would definitely take it again.

Above and beyond expectations - This tour was an incredibly special experience - an insight into the history of Sarajevo across the ages, the Bosnian War, siege of Sarajevo, and Bosnia today. The tour guide, Mak, brought a poignant personal touch to the tour - himself a child-survivor of the siege, with first-hand experience of the Tunnel of Hope (which was a moving experience in itself). Mak’s expertise and knowledge of modern Bosnian politics perfectly intertwined with telling the story and sharing experiences of the Siege. This was accompanied by historic landmarks along the way, including the surreal Olympic bobsleigh track. It was deeply surreal and powerful trip, to be able to visit the sniper spots in the hills surrounding Sarajevo, looking down on a truly historic city. Mak was able to tailor the commentary and historical narrative to my interests and knowledge, whilst showing off other key spots, such as the First Victim bridge, the site of Archduke Ferdinand’s assassination, and the stunning Yellow Fortress - with gorgeous panoramic views of the city. Mak, and the tour company, were beyond helpful, friendly, and professional - putting me in touch with other tour operators, recommending other sites of interest, restaurants, and providing me with a copy of Mak’s own Masters-degree publication. Mak and the team went above and beyond to make my entire time in Sarajevo truly special. I would do the ‘Roses of Sarajevo’ tour again in a heartbeat - such a powerful visit to incredibly emotive sites, with excellent commentary and knowledge. Above and beyond expectations. I couldn’t recommend Mak, the company, and this tour enough.

You should join and you won’t regret. - It was only me in the tour but they still operated for me. The guide Mak was super informative with his own personal experience. One of the best tour I ever joined! Very upset story but with warm and friendly guide.

Great tour with the excellent Mak! - I went with my daughter (we are from Los Angeles). Mak was absolutely WONDERFUL. Full of so much information for us—we learned so much. We covered so much ground in the four hours. Me and my daughter (a master’s student at Oxford studying Eastern Europe) learned so much. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Mak! We really appreciated his warmth and great personality and perfect English.

Highly interesting and dense with information - Mak was a really great tour guide and I am very happy with my decision to do this tour. The information comes fast and is nonstop, I feel like I got a full day's worth of information in 4 hours. Mak is very friendly and despite leading this tour so many times over the years, I still felt the emotion and energy from him throughout the day.

Excellent Tour with Mak - Mak gave a personal and very informative tour of a difficult time in the history of Sarajevo. He arrived on time and picked us up at our hotel. We drove to the Tunnel of Hope with detailed explanations along the way. He gave us a good overview at the site and told us about his experience as a child living through this period. We went to Sniper Alley, the Olympic track, and several other important places in Sarajevo. Mak was ready to answer questions, gave us some free time at most places, and ended up local recommendations. Highly recommended.

Couldn't have spent a better first day in Sarajevo! - We were lucky enough to be guided by Mak on a half day tour which took a little over 4 hours, covering the full 16km stretch of Sarajevo, aswell as a journey through some of the neighbouring towns. Mak is incredibly knowledgeable on not only the siege of Sarajevo, but also gave us an insight into the political and cultural challenges that makes the city so unique. His English is fantastic and he is very open, sharing with us some personal experiences from the war that were deeply moving. We were also lucky enough to be taken to the yellow fortress at the end of the tour to see a stunning panoramic view of the city at sunset, and got to witness the firing of the cannon to break fast! Without a doubt we would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sarajevo - on a short weekend trip there is no better way to introduce the city and its people, beliefs and history. Thank you Mak!

An unmissable experience in Sarajevo - An experience I’d recommend to everyone. Mak weaved his personal story of growing up in the war through a highly informative and meaningful tour. Mak is a natural educator. I appreciated the background he gave regarding the economic and political situation in Bosnia — it made the tour all the more impactful. I also appreciated that the tour went ahead despite the fact that I as a solo traveller was the only booking for the morning. As a result, I had an incredibly special experience that will stay on my mind for a long time.
