Additional Information

The horrific event known as the Srebrenica massacre or Srebrenica genocide occurred in July 1995, leading to the slaughter of more than 8,000 Bosniaks, most of whom were male adults and young boys. This atrocity took place within and in the vicinity of the Srebrenica town during the Bosnian War. Orchestrated by the Bosnian Serb Army from the Republic of Srpska (VRS), the troops were led by Ratko Mladić. This understanding would help in grasping the collapse of Yugoslavia, and the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

My Tour Guide Kenan was very knowledgeable and showed me around all the places where the massacre took. Its very heartbreaking but worth it for those who want to learn about the Massacre. I Recommend this Tour and would go on many Tours with Adventure in Bosnia

International March for Peace July 8-10 - Every year since 2005, this March has taken place which brings together between 5,000 and 8,000 walkers between Nezuk and Srebrenica: 80 km in 3 days, or 26 km per day. The majority of participants sleep in tents, but our Franco-Swiss group stays with locals with a package of 180 euros for 5 days. The welcome and local cuisine are of high quality. The landscape crossed, with its wooded mountains and rivers, is magnificent and helps to compensate for the tragedy experienced in July 1995: most of the houses have been rebuilt and the fields are cultivated again. There are also many fruit trees. The March has three dimensions: - the memory of the past, including the genocide of July 1995, solidarity with the survivors who have returned to their region since 2000, reflection on the future of this country, where divisions persist, despite the richness of its East-West cultural diversity and its natural resources. The Bosnia Solidarity Association, based in Geneva, organizes with its local partners the logistics of the Franco-Swiss group in July and also organizes discovery trips from the north to the south of the country in spring and autumn, starting with a walk of 4 days from Nezuk towards Srebrenica, but with stages of less than 15 km, also with accommodation with locals. Then visit Sarajevo and the underground labyrinth of Ravne near the Pyramid of the Sun in Visoko. And visit Herzegovina by staying near the old bridge of Mostar at the Almira Hotel, which organizes tours to the Sufi monastery of Blagaj, Stolac and Pocitelj; unforgettable places marked by the Ottoman period.

Great tour, great organisation! - The trip was amazing, although we had mixed feelings. It was nice to see everything and how all of it happened, but it was sad to be confronted by it. I would hundred procent recommend this tour because it gives you a feeling of how everything happened. Also while driving from Sarajevo to Srebrenica our tour guide Amer explained many details about the war, Srebrenica and all kinds of other information. He is a very polite and nice guy, he told us many great things about the country, he even gave us other recommendations to do in the city and gave us a few restaurants that we should try out (they were great). We were going to Srebrenica on a Sunday, and the Memorial Centre is closed on that day. But the Adventure in Bosnia Tour Agency managed to have it opened just for us by one of their contacts who works there. That made our day because that Sunday was our only chance to go to Srebrenica and we really wanted to visit the Memorial Centre as well, so big thumbs up to Kenan from Adventure in Bosnia for doing that for us. And I want to thank Amer for being a great guide that day!

Unbelievable that this could happen after WWII - It's unbelievable this could happen considering the Holocaust of WWII and the role United 'nothing' played in it. Well worth a visit considering it could happen again.

incredibly important and educational - The Srebrenica tour is, as one might expect, a very heavy but incredibly important tour. You get to see the exhibition at the Memorial Center, visit the city of Srebrenica and go to the cemetery. Our guide Ibrahim was very professional and we learned so much about the genocide against the Bosniak population of BiH. It's everyone's responsibility to educate themselves about topics like these so atrocities against humankind on this scale can be prevented. I've had an insightful, emotional and deeply educational time during this tour and can fully recommend it!

Would highly recommend this tour - Adventures in Bosnia tours is a professional outfit ran by Kenan who was our guide for the day. We were picked up promptly from our hotel in the old town and driven in a comfortable air conditioned van to Srebrenica memorial and burial site. On the way Kenan explained the background history which led to the war and the eventual genocide. He is very knowledgeable and provided a balanced account of an extremely emotional subject matter. The memorial is free to enter. There is a 30 minute video which provides a harrowing insight into the events of July 1995. After this it is best to follow the numbered exhibitions which provide a detailed timeline of events. During this time Kenan remained at hand to answer any questions and offer further information. He then accompanied us to the exhibition in the outer building and guided us through that. The burial site across the memorial is a humbling place. Each year on July 11th any new remains are buried and the fresh graves really were a reminder that there are still many families waiting to bury their loved ones.

Srebrenica - an educational tour for all generations - This was our first ever holiday in Bosnia, and visiting Srebrenica was a priority. I travelled with my family, and we had Kenan as our tour guide. A very sincere, knowledgeable and wonderful gentleman. He customised the tour for our personal needs. The tour itself was of course a somber experience for us, and understandably, a very sensitive matter for Kenan. However, he remained very professional throughout the day. We all enjoyed listening to his history lessons, and also to the personal experiences of family members he was happy to share with us. He totally went out of his way and made the day a very memorable one in more ways than one. We would travel again with Kenan without any hesitation! Keep up the fabulous work that you do Kenan. I highly recommend this tour company to all others who travel to Sarajevo.

An educational yet sombre trip led brilliantly by Kenan - I know this is not your typical holiday excursion but this is an absolute must- visit if you're in Sarajevo/Bosnia. The memorial site is educational as well as sobering. I cannot recommend enough Kenan and his tour company. His knowledge on the history of the war and the genocide was really impressive and we really appreciated his input throughout the day. Kenan was so polite and helpful and his love and passion for Bosnia is really great to see. Kenan is definitely the go-to guy for all your trips if you're in the area.
