Searching for activities in Santo Domingo? Don’t miss out on this Dominican Republic trail adventure. Discover the Dominican rural landscape and the most exciting hike in the DR: El Tabernáculo.

A LGBT+ friendly adventure

Our journey begins with a 2-hour scenic drive to Los Cacaos, where we will enjoy a Dominican-style breakfast.

Next, we embark on our trek to El Tabernáculo. It’s a 3 to 4-hour excursion comprised of hiking, swimming, climbing and more. The journey promises thrills and excitement. The views in real life are even better than photos. The hike is of medium difficulty; it’s challenging but not impossible. However, it’s important not to have any injuries prior to the hike. Athleticism isn’t a must.

Post-hike, we change outfits (we utilize the vehicle and nature as there are no restrooms), and then head back to the town for a Dominican lunch.

Subsequently, we joyfully return to Santo Domingo around 5pm.

  • No restroom available. Just nature
  • No dressing room available
  • Not recommended for travelers with injuries
  • Not recommended for travelers with any type of disabilities
Location
Parque Cervantes
Calle José Gabriel García
I will be in one of the streets around the park. This park is around 10 minutes walking distance from Zona Colonial. Right in front of the park, there is a monument (Obelisco Hembra), divided by Presidente Padre Billini Ave (which is the same ave as George Washington or Malecon).

Amazing hope through the mountains! - This tour exceeded all of my expectations. I have been on waterfall hikes all over the world (S.Africa, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico) and while I thoroughly enjoyed them, they have never been as fun and exciting as this tour with Fredny. The authentic Dominican meals we had were delicious and freshly made. Fredny was very accommodating and adjusted the tour based on our abilities throughout the hike. We had a great time and I will forever remember this trip as one of the best excursions I’ve taken. Definitely recommend this tour for anyone who wants to be wowed!

Adventurous yet peaceful experience with clear natural pools and gorgeous nature - This was my first activity in the DR, and still among the top - an adventurous yet really peaceful trek as you go up the multiple waterfalls and swim in the clear blueish water while the lush green nature surrounds you anywhere you look, including up! The breakfast and lunch are also delicious. Ronnie is also a fantastic guide! friendly, on time, funny, and really knowledgeable and passionate about his country and its nature. I joined a group of only another 3 travelers and we had virtually the entire hike for ourselves, which just made the experience even better. I truly recommend this to anyone that likes to see a little more of the "Real" DR and isn't afraid to get a "bit" wet. 5/5

An experience of a lifetime - It was an amazing experience, where I was able to step out of my comfort zone. From the very beginning Ronnie was on time for pickup. While on our way we enjoyed fantastic scenery, great food and conversation. The hike was amazing and we were guided along with care and encouragement. This is definitely one to add to your list.

Authentic and invigorating experience! - We had a wonderful time on this adventure! a few days before the trip started, Ronnie messaged our group in WhatsApp to explain the logistics of pick up, etc. our tour guide, Victor, was on time (picked us up at 6am on the dot) and explained everything to us during the 2 hour ride there. The breakfast before and lunch after was very authentic with a beautiful mountain view. Victor was a great tour guide! You will be in and out of the water - so definitely wear some light hiking shoes with good grip because you will be hiking through rocks & it will be somewhat slippery. We went in March and the water was cold (15C) but definitely bearable! We brought a waterproof backpack & kept our phones and water bottle in it. Victor also brings one & can hold your phone in his bag. It was a very fun experience and we would definitely do it again. I wouldn’t recommend this if you are brand new to hiking and/or can’t hike through rocks or don’t like swimming!

Great adventure👍 - This trip was a great adventure. One of the best day tours I have taken. Be prepared for very cold water, and insist that the tour also includes Tiana falls nearby.

Great, exciting, excellent, amazing. - This is one of the best tourist guides ever, always on point, you can count with him and that is something that is so important because if somebody has this level of responsibility you'd that your experience will be great, as it was best of the best.

A must do adventure in the DR - Great experience. Try to enjoy the journey to and from the waterfall. Traveling that far inland to remote areas and seeing Dominican life away from the busy areas was great. The tour guides, my new amigos, Victor and Llacon, hope I spelled his name correctly, were fantastic! They add so much to the journey. The hike was amazing and the waterfall. The pictures online don’t do it justice, need to see in person. This will be the highlight of my DR vacation. Be prepared for a long day, but a fun, rewarding day. The pick ups in the morning were on time and communication was great. Mucho gracias amigos.

An incredible experience 🤩 - I loved doing the tour with you. The truth is, I was afraid because I didn't know how to swim, but Victor is a great guide, he never left me alone, he was always giving me support, cheers and all the good vibes. They have a service of another level, personalized treatment and super delicious and hot food 🤩 My expectations were exceeded. I recommend them a thousand 😎👌🏻🤩 I return to Guatemala with memories of incredible views, of all the kindness and excellent treatment of the team 🫶🏻

Great hike through the mountain river to magnificent waterfall at the end - We like the experience we had while hiking through the mountain river with many different small waterfalls to see the beautiful nature views and magnificent waterfall at the top of the hike. Our guide Victor was very helpful and provided a lot of interesting information about surroundings as well as tips how to better approach some difficult parts of hiking trail. We had nice Dominican breakfast and lunch, got to try coffee beans and cocoa fruit picked right from trees along the way to the hiking trail. Recommend to people that do not afraid to get in the mountain river waters - for Dominicans the temperature is a bit chilly))).

Amazing authentic Dominican experience - We had an amazing time on this excursion. Victor and Ronnie coordinated everything with us and told us what to expect/bring shortly after we booked. Victor picked us up right on time and took care of us throughout the entire day. The experience itself was incredible. The sights were unbelievable and the water was so nice. Victor was very patient with us and was nice enough to take a photo or two (or 78) of my girlfriend and I until it was perfect. The whole experience was an authentic Dominican experience. We went through a small town on the way up the mountain, then through a mountain town, and ate an amazing homemade breakfast and lunch. The food was delicious and we felt like locals, which is something we always look for when exploring new countries. I would highly recommend this experience and we will definitely do other excursions with them when we come back to DR.
