Setting Sail on a Family Adventure

As a travel writer and a mother of three, I’m always on the lookout for family-friendly activities that offer both fun and a touch of education. Our recent trip to Santa Ponça led us to the Isla Dragonera Cruise—a delightful boat trip that promised a mix of history, nature, and relaxation. The moment we stepped aboard the sturdy, clean, and spacious boat, I knew we were in for a treat. Each seat offered a guaranteed view, ensuring that even my youngest, who is often the first to complain about not seeing anything, was content.

The crew, including the captain, were nothing short of amazing. Their warm smiles and friendly banter set the tone for the day. I was particularly impressed by the captain’s approachability. During our stops, he would bring out his guitar, and to our surprise, he and the crew sang “Happy Birthday” to a fellow passenger. It was these personal touches that made the experience feel special and inclusive.

Exploring Dragonera Island

Our first stop was the famed Dragonera Island, a place steeped in history and natural beauty. Known as a former pirate hideaway, the island is now a protected natural park. As we disembarked, I was struck by the island’s rugged beauty. While some might find it barren, I found the landscape fascinating, especially the abundance of tiny lizards darting about. It was a gentle reminder to watch our step as we explored.

The island offers a small museum and several hiking paths, perfect for a short family adventure. My kids were thrilled to learn about the island’s pirate past and its unique flora and fauna. The hour we spent there flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to return to the boat.

A Refreshing Swim and a Delightful Lunch

Back on the boat, we headed to Cala d’Egos for a swim stop. The crystal-clear waters were inviting, and snorkeling revealed an amazing variety of fish. It was a joy to see my children, usually glued to their screens, so engaged with nature. The crew provided snorkeling gear, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun.

Lunch was a delightful affair. Despite being last in line, there was plenty of food to go around. The buffet included freshly made chorizo sandwiches, omelette bites, and an endless supply of salads and melons. The crew’s attention to detail was evident as they helped pass food and drinks to those on the upper levels of the boat.

As we sailed back, the captain expertly navigated the waters, adjusting the boat’s speed and course with ease. The live guitar music added a relaxing touch to the journey home. By the end of the trip, I felt compelled to thank each crew member for their dedication and hard work. Their efforts made this cruise one of the highlights of our holiday, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any family visiting the area.
