Fun Trip, definitely recommend - We loved the "Perfect" 5 hour Hollywood / Beverly Hills tour from Santa Monica. Our guide Kelly was awesome, throughout the trip she had stories and insight about LA that made it a really fun day. Great mix of time riding the tour bus and getting the opportunity to explore some great areas along the way. Highly recommend!

Boring, but probably just our tour guide’s fault - Our driver/guide was named Josh G. By the way, he never introduced himself or the tour and we didn’t learn his name until the last couple of minutes. He spoke periodically in a relatively quiet monotone voice. He never asked anyone to introduce themselves and didn’t try very hard to make banter with the guests. On our short stops at a couple of locations, he fell asleep in the van until it was time to go again. Much of the tour consisted of Josh pointing at or referencing things that we couldn’t really see. 20-30 minutes through Bel-Air and Beverly Hills were spent listing various celebrities who used to live in the houses there, many of which were obscured by foliage. He would often say something like “[celebrity] lives down that way” or “there are some beautiful museums over there” and gesture to a road we weren’t going down, making us feel like we were just missing out on the good sights. Josh also had a tendency to talk about irrelevant things. For example, he noted that we were passing by a Goodwill and started rambling about the costs of thrifting clothes nowadays. He spent a lot of time talking about movies he liked or giving his own political/cultural opinions. He would drop vague facts about history or celebrities sometimes, but they were clearly unscripted and he often mispronounced or misremembered things (memorably “David Dinklage” and “Camel-a Harris”). A lot of “I saw” and “I think.” Finally, Josh’s comments were often odd, uncomfortable, or offensive. They are funny in retrospect, but I assure you, no one was laughing with him in the moment. Here are the highlights: > Randomly referring to Hunter Biden as “a total crack addict” > Referring to a PetCo as “the gay PetCo, where you take your gay cats or gay dogs” with no explanation as to why > A brief monologue about how “Michael Jackson’s soul is eternally in limbo in the depths of the river Styx, awaiting the judgement of the shadowy lord Hades” (he said this with a straight face, unprompted and with no follow-up; we have no idea if he was joking LOL) > Saying that Hollywood Boulevard used to be a place where people went “to get crack or transgender hookers” (this made my transgender sibling particularly uncomfortable) From reading the other reviews, it seems like this tour would’ve been perfectly fine if we had another guide. Instead, my family (three adults and two teens) was thoroughly bored and disappointed. I felt like I was forced to go on a 5.5 hour road trip with a weird uncle rather than a professional tour guide. I’m sure Josh is a nice guy otherwise, but in our opinion, he was not suited for the job.

Fake it until you make it! - My LA tour departed on time and returned 6.5 hours later in a vehicle that was not nearly in the condition of the one advertised. The driver made a comment that the tour is better when you know what you’re doing and joking or not, I kind of believe it. After driving from Santa Monica to Venice Beach we drove past several buildings belonging to Google and other tech giants. He pointed out a dolphin weather vane on a house and a Chevy Spark as we drove around the local neighborhoods of everyday people. We made our way to Beverly Hills but we couldn’t see many homes as they were mostly hidden. We stopped for 30 minutes and three passengers never returned and they only conveyed the message to another passenger. We waited an extra five minutes, drove around the block and then proceeded on to the market. The driver made many odd and off putting comments including pointing out workers that he said were either Ecuadorian or Guatemalan but who cares? He pointed out AA and rehab places, talked about meth/other drugs and shared about his own alcohol sobriety of 28 years. When someone asked about the population of LA, he provided a response but then made it a point to mention that there are many undocumented people which was a pointless comment. Our view of the Hollywood sign came from a neighborhood with power lines and photos were taken from a game of chicken in the middle of the road. We made it to Hollywood Blvd with only 30 minutes to explore rather than an hour because we were running late. If we had spent less time in driving through everyday places, we would have had more time. When I read the other reviews, I was expecting highly informative commentary on the key places but it seems like we had a substitute driver that was making it up as he drove.
