Santa Marta - El Mamey Cabaña

Santa Marta - Departing from Santa Marta at 9:00 am, you’ll travel by 4x4 (Jeep) to the Mamey area, which is about an hour and a half’s drive. Starting from the Machete trail, you’ll begin the uphill trek to trace the steps left by the Tayronas, the creators of Teyuna. You’ll arrive at a farm equipped with hammocks for an overnight stay. There’s also the opportunity to enjoy a swim and unwind in the natural pools or waterfalls near the cabin.

Cabin I / Cabin Indigenous I

Santa Marta - Rise early for breakfast before embarking on a hike down to the Buritaca River valley, where you’ll encounter a few indigenous dwellings forming a small village called Mutanshi. The journey continues for about 4 hours to a cabin where you’ll spend the night in hammocks adorned with small beads.

Santa Marta - The excursion starts with a roughly 4 and a half hour hike, including breaks, along native trails within the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Natural Park. You’ll pass areas with paths carved by the region’s ancient residents and cross the Buritaca river to reach the second indigenous cabin for an overnight stay.

Tour of the lost city / indigenous cabin 2

Santa Marta - Your day kicks off with an ascent up a stone staircase comprising over 1200 steps to reach Teyuna, the lost city of the Tayronas, a sacred site for the indigenous people. Explore the archaeological remains and learn about the history of this remarkable place during a guided tour. After receiving lunch, you’ll head back to the cabin.

Santa Marta - Have breakfast at 6:30 am and set out at 7:30 am to return, enjoying lunch at a cabin near Mutanshi. You’ll then proceed to camp I to rest for the night.

You must go to Lost City because it is an unforgettable experience, walk for a few days to know a civilization that takes billions of years, it is a privilege that not everyone can have, in Lost City you can have spontaneous cultural meetings with some of the more than 50,000 indigenous people from the Kogi, Wiwa, Kankuamos and Arhuacos communities who live there and are descendants of the Tayrona civilization, who inhabited this place. It was declared a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It is estimated that only 10% of Lost City has been explored. The researchers believe that there are many other sites such as Pueblito in Tayrona Park that date from that civilization.
