Excellent hiking tour in Minca! - Prompt pickup. Loved learning about the biodiversity and fauna of Colombia. Enjoyed the coffee tasting….especially loved the coffee liqueur (so much that I bought some to bring back for myself and as gifts). Also enjoyed learning about the cacao process and tasting cacao fruit straight from the pod for the first time. The lunch was tasty and healthy (chicken with rice and plentiful vegetables). You need to be in excellent physical condition to do the walking…to reach the waterfalls and the lunch at the cacao ecolodge, specifically. The guide sets a pretty mean pace.

Nice Minca and informative tour - Make sure to get WhatsApp in your phone as all my tour operators and taxi services used this to communicate with you. Tour was a bit confusing at first, instead of getting on a tour bus, I was picked up by a taxi at my hotel to be taken to Minca. Drive through up and round through heavy Santa Marta traffic and nice mountain drive, you get to Minca, where you meet your tour guide. Gustavo (guide) and his two dogs were great guiding us and giving as great tour in Spanish and English. You start off with quick instruction then 1.5 mile hike up to the coffee farm. Guide gave us about various plants surrounding and why they were important to organic coffee farm, how a plant, frailejon, looks like a single cactus with hairy fern on top plays important water provision role in dry season like now. In the coffee farm, we learnt about how coffee is collected and processed, then had a taste of coffee and coffee liquor then the sale. Organic coffee here is ACTUALLY cheaper than in the Airport duty free shops, so it was a good purchase. Then you were given an hour to dip in to the stream pool next (nice and refreshing), since its in a dry season, you don't see water fall like in pictures, but refreshing swim was nice in hot weather and the hike. (there are bathrooms here) Then you hike back to town, made a quick stop for drink purchases and hike up to Cocoa farm (Jungle Joe) area, during this hike we saw few birds, to get lunch (included, chicken with curry flavor, coconut rice, small salad) with fruit juice (also cold water was available). Here he gave lesson on cocoa history and processing, tasted fresh cocoa bean, roasted bean, then participated in chocolate making, using roasted beans to ground then mix with sugar and sesame seeds. He also gave some ecological lecture, which was very informative and interesting. Then we head back to meeting point where our driver was waiting to take us back to the hotel. This was very interesting and informative tour, getting to learn about coffee, cocoa, and Colombia eco system, while seeing mountain region of Santa Marta.

A great for intelligent eccentric adults - I was always very hesitant about going on a tour. This was amazing. The lessons were sophisticated and our intelligence was embraced not insulted. I would recommend this for everyone.

Very informative + loads of activities - coffee farm chat, coffee taster, provided lunch, bush/town walk, swim in a small river, cacao talk, nature + animal talk, we even had a singer perform during lunch!!!!! They pack alot into the day so great value for money. It is chat heavy so prepare for that.

Nice but maybe not the right guide for us? - Friendly day in Minca: nice view from the restaurant, nice waterfall. Nevertheless we had trouble connecting with the guide who was very in his explanations which were really too long. We found the rhythm really long, not pleasant to do Minca > farm > waterfall and retrace our steps to cross entirely at the pace of the village to go eat (it rained a lot from the return of the waterfall is maybe for that). We landed at almost 3pm for lunch. It’s a shame because the background was interesting but the rhythm really dragged a lot and lost us.

Nice walk but awful guide - The sights and the walk were very nice, the waterfall was smaller than expected. Our guide however, lectured us about happiness and the state of humanity, in a way that felt condescending, critical and sometimes aggressive.
