Highlights
  • Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli - An interesting visit to St. Francis Basilica with his early Renaissance master-pieces by Giotto and Cimabue and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels ,

After the death of Saint Francis in 1226, the friars built several small huts around the Porziuncola. In 1230, a refectory and some adjacent buildings were added. In the course of time, little porticoes and accommodations for the friars were added around the Porziuncola. Some foundations of these were discovered during excavations under the floor of the present basilica between 1967 and 1969.

As vast numbers of pilgrims came flocking to Assisi to receive the “Pardon of Assisi” the small space of the Porziuncola became completely inadequate to house all these pilgrims. The necessity grew to build a church incorporating the Porziuncola. The buildings around the shrine were taken down by order of Pope Pius V (1566-1572), except the Chapel of the Transito, the cell in which St. Francis had died. Construction of the basilica started on 25 March 1569.

  • Basilica di Santa Chiara - Visit the church of Santa Chiara , The church was built, after the death of Santa Chiara, between 1257 and 1265, around the ancient church of San Giorgio, which until 1230 had kept the mortal remains of St. Francis
  • Pinacoteca Comunale Palazzo Vallemani - splendid baroque residence with frescoed vaults at the beginning of the seventeenth century by Umbrian and Tuscan painters - the Pinacoteca Comunale di Assisi is on display, which includes a conspicuous group of medieval and Renaissance frescoes
  • Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - The mystic town of Saint Francis, sill surrounded by its ancient walls, built on the green slopes of Mount Subasio, with its colourful houses of ink stone. Narrow streets, flower decked balconies and noble palaces provide beautiful views for memorable pictures (do not forget your camera). An interesting visit to St. Francis Basilica with his early Renaissance master-pieces by Giotto and Cimabue and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
  • Da Cecco - Free time for lunch tasting the tipical localfood and wine , shopping and walking. after 1 hour the tour will start again

Worth the money. Safe and educational day trip. - This was a fantastic trip. The communication between us and the tour group was good. They responded quickly. Our driver and guide were excellent. We felt very safe and in good hands. The local tour guide in Assisi, Antonella, was spectacular. I would highly recommend this tour. Well worth the cost.

The BEST tour we’ve ever done! Highly Recommend! - This was the BEST tour we have ever taken! We were promptly picked up at our Airbnb. Our guide was the most delightful and pleasant person we have ever met on a tour. She is Italian but spent decades in Australia and her English was fantastic. She took us to a great coffee shop for breakfast and recommended a great spot for lunch (which was one of our favorite meals). We saw the liturgical cloth of the Miracle of Bolsena’s-Orvieto which as a Catholic was the highlight of our trip. Assisi is beautiful. This tour was well worth the money and I highly recommend this tour!

Highlight of our trip to Rome! - We spent Thanksgiving in Rome this year and were looking for a day trip to a new region. This was the absolute highlight of our trip. Such a special day and we fell in love with Umbria. The ride was very comfortable and there was beautiful landscapes. We LOVED our tour guide in Assisi, he was so fun and knowledgable. Walking around this beautiful town was incredible and the cathedral with breathtaking. We enjoyed our time so much and would recommend this trip to anyone. 10/10!

a wonderful tour. Alex... - a wonderful tour. Alex and Luigi were awesome, even when we had to wait for a lot of time for a marathon with a couple thousand runners going past before we could get to Assisi. They were both great. My only regret is that I did not reward them with a tip. I mistakenly thought tips were not expected in Italy. But I should have anyway...

Assisi and Apennine mountains - The Cathedrals in Assisi are a must see. Our local guide Mary was excellent. A second highlight was the beautiful countryside of the Apennine mountain range. The visit to Orvieto was short but worthwhile. Unfortunately the guide that accompanied us from Rome was lazy and didn’t offer much commentary that would have made the drive more interesting. And I was disappointed that lunch and the admission to some of the venues was not included in this premium package.
