Additional Information

El Salvador’s popular Ruta de las Flores, or the Flowers Route, earned its name credited to the floral abundance along a scenic 22-mile (36-km) mountain roadway. This comprehensive day tour exposes you to several vibrant towns such as Nahuizalco, Juayúa, Apaneca, and Concepción de Ataco, noted for their natural appeal, unique crafts, coffee estates, regular festivals, and an array of local and global food. Join a friendly guide to wander along the cobbled streets of each colonial village, savoring the pleasant, temperate weather and the leisurely rhythm of the Sierra Apaneca. The perfect blend of soil, altitude, and climate of this area have made it the primary coffee-producing region in El Salvador. Be part of this journey by visiting an Apaneca coffee estate.

Great Trip - Highly Recommended! - Highly recommend! We were only 4 people and it felt like a private tour. Our tour guide Adonis was great! He helped us with buying fruits, coffee, snacks etc in addition to explaining the history of each town on the route. Beautiful people, beautiful country and it definitely feels very safe.

Would highly recommend! - Alfredo was a wonderful guide who was very fluent in English. He was willing to answer any questions that were asked of him. At our request, he adapted our itinerary to add another site. We don't linger so this did not add to the length of the day. Was a wonderful way to see more of El Salvador!

Wonderful tour - Great Trip! Alfredo and the driver were excellent and gave us a great tour commentary. When I left, I accidentally left something behind and managed to get Alfredo to drop it back at my hotel. This was much appreciated.

Fantastic tour with Eduardo - We had an incredible time on the flower route tour! Our guide Eduardo was fantastic and went out of his way to make sure we had a memorable day. His passion for the nature, history and culture of El Salvador made the day so much more enjoyable and informative. I very highly recommend requesting him. We loved learning about volcanos and the geology of El Salvador. Our favorite stops were the murals in Ataco and the street market, where Eduardo treated us to all sorts of delicious fresh fruits and had us experiencing life with locals. We also found the perfect gifts for family back home (obsidian stones/jewelry) at our lunch stop. Highly recommend!!!

Best Tour Company - Love this company! Ease of booking, excellent customer services, keep you updated, good value for money, comfortable travel, always on time for pick ups. This trip you get to see beautiful colorful towns and scenery. As a solo female traveler I was worried about travelling to El Salvador having read the news. My guide Alfredo put me at ease straightaway. I didn't see any trouble, locals were extremely friendly and welcoming, (even more than they are in the UK) So I had an amazing time and didn't worry about my safety at all. I spent 8 days with Salvadorean tours, great package, tailored to my schedule. I particularly enjoyed The flower route tour. Highly recommend all the tours they do and the staff I met and spoke to were all outstanding! Really enjoying the recommended coffee from the coffee farm :-).

Coffee plantation explained - This was a wonderful day trip from San Salvador. The small villages in the mountains are worth the trip but the highlight for me was the coffee plantation. Amazing the work involved to sip your Starbucks.

Fabulous Tour of Ruta de las Flores with Marbel - I took the Ruta de Las Flores tour with Marbel, by far one of the best tour guides I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Salvadoran history and current events. I asked him lots of questions about the current political situation in El Salvador, which he explained very well. He is fun, passionate about the places we visited, and an excellent driver too. The first place we visited on the “flowers route” was Nahuizalco. We walked around the market and Marbel recommended a few foods, like yuca frita and horchata Salvadoran style, that I had never tried before. Best of all, we visited a community museum that told the story of the indigenous people of Nahuizalco, and how the Salvadoran military massacred thousands of them in 1932. I learned about the revival of the indigenous Nahua culture and even met some children learning the Nahua language. We spent some time drinking a special coffee in Juayua when it started raining hard. We had to spend almost an hour waiting for the rain to let up. This gave me even more time with Marbel, who for me represents the heart and soul of the wonderful people of this beautiful country. Our last visit was the coffee tour of El Carmen Estate in Ataco. We learned about how the coffee is processed, all the different qualities of coffee produced I El Salvador, where the coffee is exported, and the working conditions for people who harvest the coffee beans. From now on, every time I go to a coffee shop in Washington DC, where I live, I will be sure to ask if they have Salvadoran coffee. Forget about that coffee from Guatemala, Colombia and Kenya! Thanks again to Marbel and Salvadorean Tours for a perfect day, despite the rain.
