Toconao, also referred to as Kunza Rincón Perdido, bewitches visitors with its unassuming charm, the serenity of its inhabitants, unique weather, picturesque architecture, and unique handcrafted items. Our journey skirts the edges of the Salar de Atacama, leading to the enchanting Laguna Chaxa situated in the Soncor sector of the R.N.L. F. We then venture southeast toward the Andes Mountains and arrive at the highland village of Socaire, where we explore its historic church and gain insight into the local farming practices. Ascending further into the Andean range, at an elevation of about 4200 meters above sea level, we come upon the Miscanti and Meñiques Lagoons. Part of the Reserva Nacional Los Flamencos, these lagoons are nestled among volcanic landscapes featuring the Miscanti hill and Meñiques volcano. These bodies of water are fed by subsurface runoffs originating from glacial thaw. We continue our trek along the southern Andean slopes to reach Salar de Talar, popularly known as Piedras Rojas, where an array of stones undergo natural processes of oxidation and erosion.
