Setting Sail from Caleta Harbor

The day began with a gentle breeze as I made my way to Caleta Harbor, the starting point of my much-anticipated snorkeling adventure. The sun was just beginning to peek through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the Caribbean waters. I was greeted by Jorge and Daniel, our guides for the day, who welcomed us aboard the Orion with friendly smiles and a selection of refreshing drinks. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the promise of exploring Cozumel’s renowned reefs had me buzzing with excitement.

Our first destination was the Columbia and Palancar reefs, two of the most celebrated snorkeling spots in the region. As we approached, the rain that had accompanied us earlier in the day began to clear, and the sun emerged, casting a golden hue over the sandy shore. Jorge and Daniel set up a delightful spread of fresh fruit, water, sodas, and beers, inviting us to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

The beach was a slice of paradise, and I found myself wishing I could stay there indefinitely. The gentle lapping of the waves and the warm sun on my skin created a sense of serenity that was hard to leave behind. As I sipped on a cold beer and savored the fresh fruit, I reflected on the day’s adventures and the incredible service provided by Jorge and Daniel. While the reefs may not have been as colorful as I had hoped, the abundance of marine life and the overall experience more than made up for it. The issue of sunscreen affecting the reefs is a concern, and I hope that future visitors will take steps to protect these precious ecosystems.
