Highlights
  • Boca de la Cañada - The first part of our excursion begins down in the mouth of the canyon along the edge of the river. As we ride we will have the opportunity to cross the river at several points which is always great fun! Throughout the ride those who wish to have some exciting gallops will have several opportunities to do so.
After this rest stop we continue on our trusty steeds up-and-out of the canyon until reaching it’s spectacular cliffs. Here we make a 20 minute pause break in order to take some completely spectacular photos. It is also here that whoever wishes to will have the opportunity to rappel off the sheer 150 foot-high cliff faces!
Then we continue over the plains and amongst the cattle. After a short while we reach a further edge of the canyon and begin a 40 minute descent back down to it’s rocky bottom, where we once again find the winding river named La Virgen which we will continue to cross at several more points.
For the grand finale the ladies back at the ranch will have ready for us one of the most delicious organic ranch-style meals that you will ever experience. Guaranteed to be one of the best meals you can possibly find in San Miguel de Allende!

3rd time on the half day tour - This is my 3rd time doing this tour, which speaks to how much I enjoy it. This time I brought my husband who has never been on a horse before. He loved the experience! June was our guide. She was a fantastic teacher and guide!! She has a genuine love for this area of Mexico and animals. Thank you for another great trip!

Must-Do Experience! - This was our second time doing the half day horseback riding adventure. Cannot say enough good things about this trip/ the coyote canyon adventure crew. We loved getting outside of San Miguel proper to get a taste of the countryside. The views of the canyon are spectacular and the horses are incredibly well trained. Our guide, June, made us feel safe and comfortable while giving expert instruction. It was a joy to get to know her and the cowboys that came along for the ride. Possibly the best part of the adventure is the lunch you have at a nearby ranch after the ride. Delicious tortillas, vegetables, cheese — all vegetables grown on the ranch, tortillas prepared the same day, cheese from cows that you can see grazing as you eat. You will never have a fresher meal. Coyote canyon adventures are a must-do activity for my family each time we visit San Miguel. Thank you, coyote canyon team!

Adventure in SMA - Coyote Canyon Adventures was one of the highlights of my trip to SMA. I originally booked an adventure for my friend and me, but my friend was unable to join due to a family emergency. I decided to go sola, and the staff was very understanding and accommodating. The view of the canyon was incredible and food was delicious. The next time you are SMA don’t hesitate booking an adventure with this company. You won’t regret it.

This was the best day of our 2 1/2 weeks in Mexico - This is by far the best adventure I have been on in years. Since childhood I have dreamed of going horseback riding and this trip was very special. The cowboys and staff were very knowledgeable and made the trip both safe and exciting. The horses were absolutely amazing and although I have no previous horseback riding experience I was able to gallop a few times at the. bottom of the canyon. We did a trial gallop and the cowboys decided who would be safe to continue to do more galloping. The canyon was very dry after two years of drought but I could imagine what the place might look like during the rainy season. The view from the top of the canyon is very beautiful. A perfect half day tour brought to and end with a delicious and fresh home made lunch on the side of the mountain. I couldn't recommend this trip more!

Don't pass on this adventure! - What an amazing experience! The day was wonderful from start to finish - Our guide, June, was fun, knowledgeable + engaging. The cowboys were skilled, the horses were hale and the trail was just beautiful. The gods must have been smiling upon us, as we reached the ridge just as the solar eclipse began. June made sure we had viewing glasses... it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Amazing ride, difficult steep terrain - Amazing experience! We went with our kids, and it’s important to note that while no experience horse riding is required, the terrain is very difficult and hilly up and down, and our kids were quite scared going down the canyon as it is quite steep. It is not a ride for the faint hearted, but very well trained horses and spectacular views!
