Unforgettable Balloon a winner! - Loved our day with Unforgettable Balloon. Ashleigh, Derrick, and Danny provided the perfect experience for us while in Mexico City. We were picked up at our Airbnb as promised and had a great time with them. They were flexible with our interests. We even texted them through What'sApp to say we wanted more time exploring the pyramids and they responded immediately and accommodated! Highly recommend!

Great day - This is the second time I have done this trip. Each company does something different. I enjoyed this group as it was a small operation that post balloon ride took you into the town for breakfast and then to a coop to learn about some local traditions. We had a great host that took us to the various locations as we drove our own vehicle to the event.

Best host ever - Daniel was a great host! Pick-up with a private car straight from our hotel to the balloon site. The balloon company he used looked very reliable. Unfortunately there was a lot of fog, so after a couple of hours waiting (with coffee, snacks & mango-tequila shots) the flight was cancelled for safety reasons. Daniel asked us if we still wanted to do the rest of the trip - which we did. He offered a full refund of the trip, but already provided transport, still wanted to pay for our breakfast and even threw in a bottle of Mezcal… even though we couldn’t reschedule as we departed for Guatemala the next day. We got a fun explanation of the local stones used by the craftsmen as well as a tasting of several drinks. We then went to the temples and were dropped off in CDMX at a location of our choice. Of course we decided ourselves to pay for all the tour services excl. the balloon flight ride as the service was impeccable! Would absolutely recommend to book your tour via Camino Al Sol Mexico

Needs Improvement - Really, this review should be lower, but I don't want to tank this company's reputation. I am writing this review in hopes that it will help the tour company improve and so other tourists can have a better idea of what to expect. We booked this tour option over others due to a cheaper price and thinking that this company appeared to be new since there were limited reviews and probably would not hurt to give it a chance. We were wrong. I will start with the pros: we did go on a safe hot air balloon ride, we were picked up and transported to the locations identified in the description (except for drop off at the end of the day), and the tour guides and other tourists were pretty nice. Now for the areas that need improvement: 1. Pickup. I didn't hear from the tour company regarding pickup details. I had to reach out to viator at 7pm the night before and they got back to me via whatsapp. They provided a name, license plate number, vehicle type and pickup location, and pickup time of 5:10am. At 4:45am, I received a whatsapp message from a different name than what was provided to me and a message that they would be arriving in 5 minutes with many other passengers. I asked the driver for ID confirmation (which was different than what was provided to us the day prior) and let the driver know that we were told 5:10am but they proceeded to give me a hard time about how we were supposed to be ready at 5:00am and we exchanged screenshots showing conflicting information. We made it down by 5:05am to a vehicle that had a license plate different from what was provided the night before and the driver indicated he was the husband of the person that was supposed to have been driving. It was a rough start to the day. On top of that the van was old and very bumpy. 2. Language Barrier. I checked multiple times to confirm I booked an English tour. However, everything was in Spanish for the drive and most of the day. We were dependent on other tourists that were also on vacation to translate for us. It was not clear if this was an oversight or if this was intentional, however this seems very important. Yes, we should probably have learned more Spanish in advance of this trip, however it is just unexpected when paying this much for a tour that is supposed to be in English. This was an issue throughout the day as we never really knew where we were going, what was going on, or what was next. 3. Conflicting Tour Bookings. It became apparent that different tour packages were booked among different groups of travelers within the vehicle. Our tour was supposed to include 2 hours at the Pyramid site after breakfast. Others within the vehicle site did not have tickets to the Pyramid site so it made for a confusing situation. A 3rd party tour guide came in and pitched going to a cave and getting a tour of the pyramids for an extra 5-600 pesos each. The pitch was in Spanish so we again did not know what was going on, but we were expected to decide as an entire vehicle group with 5-7 different groups of travelers on 1 plan. Other tourists were enthusiastic about the cave so we gave into going to the cave thinking it would add on only some time. Other tourists negotiated (in Spanish) the cave tour and pyramid tour down to 300 pesos. Advice for anyone that books this specific tour: SKIP THE CAVE. Or after speaking to some other friends, book a different tour that includes the cave with a normal tour. The cave ended up being 2 hours and the guide made it an unusual "spiritual" tour that involved looking at their photos of photoshopped spirits of other travelers on their phone followed by doing a ridiculous ritual in the cave. Other tour groups behind us also watched us do the ritual and had to wait. Furthermore, the tour was pitched as being offered in English and Spanish when we agreed to pay, but the guide only spoke in Spanish, forcing other tourists to translate for us. The cave could have been a cool experience but the whole thing seem ridiculous and honestly probably offensive. Following the cave, we still wanted to do the pyramids, which we learned the rest of the van participants needed to pay extra for, and the cave tour guide bailed. So others were pressured to pay more so that we could go to the pyramids, which was already included in our tour. Paying the tour guide took about 45 minutes since his reader didn't work. Ultimately we had about 45 minutes at the pyramid site. We ran through in 80 degree weather and only got to see a few sites. I wish we had been offered an option to see the pyramids while others when to the cave. Our tour was supposed to be done by 2pm, but we didn't start the pyramids until 3pm. Also, many museums are closed on Monday so the description on the experience was misleading since entering some of the museums was not an option on the day of our tour. 4. Dropoff at Pickup Location: Apparently not included (despite us paying an extra $30 for "pickup"). This was a surprise to almost everyone in the van but we were all so tired it didn't make sense to argue. The announcement that we would not be dropped off at our pickup location also happened in Spanish, so others had to translate for us. We were dropped off "close" to our pickup location. Usually "Pickup" suggests dropoff is included, however it was not in this case. Other notes: Hot Air Balloon company was Magic Balloons. No real issues with them. Flight felt safe. Minimal instructions were provided in English. Camina Al Sol brought an English speaking friendly guy to translate to the site. They take a A LOT of pictures of you in hopes that you will buy the very expensive photos at 1500 pesos. I tried to explain they should take pictures of others as we would not be buying photos, but there was a language barrier. We did receive a general apology about the pickup confusion but no real acknowledgment of what happened and why. We never received any tour information about the pyramids in English. It did sound like some info was provided in Spanish but I am not sure. If booking this tour and you do not speak Spanish, I recommend reading about the pyramids in advance otherwise there is no context for what you are looking at. We were handed off to another company and group for the Teotihuacan culture tour, which was provided in English. This was probably the best part of the entire day as it was the only tour we could understand. Overall, if you speak some Spanish, then this tour might not have been bad. But with the prices, it might just make sense to go with a different company. We spoke with some friends that booked similar packages with other companies and confirmed their entire tour was in English.
