Have had better food tours - Price was pretty high for the quality and quantity. Guide was knowledgeable and took us to a number of places. Somewhat basic.

Good food, fun tour, too expensive - I love exploring new cities, and I think a food walking tour is a perfect way to do it. I've started doing these in every city I go to, so I now have a sense of the good and the bad. The good: we loved our tour guide Claudia and loved getting to know the awesome people in our group! Claudia gave interesting background on the different foods we ate and the sites around Old San Juan that we passed. She was super friendly and a good storyteller, which is a big part of what I love about this way of getting to know a city and a culture. I had a few food restrictions, and Claudia was able to make some easy swaps to accommodate, which I appreciate. Just ok: The food. Of the 5 places we visited, I loved 2 or 3, and the rest were just ok or not good. Nothing wrong with the places, I just didn't think the food was so interesting. Puerto Rican food is simple and not spicy, which ended up being kind of bland. I really didn't like the mofongo, and the mojito that went with it was pretty bad. The pastelillas and fruit popsicles were the highlight, but not worth $150. See below. The bad: for what we did, I thought this tour was too expensive. We went to 5 places, and it was 3+ hours, which let us do a good amount of walking. Claudia was great, and without the organized tour I wouldn't have gotten to know the fun people from around the US, but I think I would have been better off just going to a few restaurants on my own and doing a less expensive tour of the city. Not sure it was worth it :(
