Highlights
  • Mission San Juan Capistrano - Guest will be led on a professionally guided private tour through the Mission San Juan Capistrano grounds. We will visit numerous historical and cultural locations such as the Great Stone Church, the Serra Chapel, Priests quarters, agricultural area, and courtyards.
  • Los Rios Historic District - The Los Rios Historic District is the oldest continually occupied neighborhood in California and it is located 0.2 miles (5 minute walk from the entrance to Mission SJC).

The area is filled with historical buildings dating to 1794, and some of the adobes that housed the Native Americans living at the mission.

  • Montanez Adobe - The Montanez Adobe is believed to be one of the original 40 adobes constructed by mission Indians in 1794. The Montanez Adobe was the home of Dona Poloninia Montanez, the daughter of Tomas Gutierrez, an early mission carpenter.
  • Los Rios Butterfly garden - A beautiful butterfly garden near the Montanez Adobe that includes beautiful native plants.
  • Casa Avila - Los Rios Cottages - One of the first homes in California and home to Orange County’s first felon, Modesta Avila.
  • Silvas Adobe - The adobe was built by Ajachamen Native Americans during the establishment of the Mission by Fr. J. Serra in 1776.

It was lived in by Jose Maria Silvas and Lucarda Yorba, who received the home from Jose’s father-in-law Domingo Yorba as a wedding gift.

  • El Adobe de Capistrano - Currently a Mexican restaurant, the building was originally two separate structures. The northern section was originally the home of Miguel Yorba Adobe, built in 1797. The southern half housed the Juzgado (court and jails) and was established in 1812.

The walls forming El Adobe’s cocktail lounge were part of the original Miguel Yorba Adobe. The wine cellar is now housed in the Juzgado’s dungeon-like cell.
