Highlights
  • San Ignacio - Our most popular tour activity is a pleasant half day horseback ride to Xunantunich.

The tour begins at the stables, a family-owned horseback riding establishment where over 45 horses call home. Your transportation to the stables from San Ignacio is included.

  • Xunantunich - When you arrive, meet your local Belizean guide for the day and then mount your horses to depart!

The ride to Xunantunich includes a well maintained trail through a large private farm and along the banks of the Mopan River in the village of San Jose Succotz. You will cross the river on an ancient hand-operated ferry, and then ride your horse up to Xunantunich. When you arrive, prepare to dismount and let your horse rest while you can spend as much time as you desire exploring Xunantunich by foot. Afterwards, we will ride to the nearby Benny’s Kitchen for a delicious lunch of traditional Belizean dishes before returning to Hanna Stables.

Tour duration: 4-6 hours, depending on speed and desire to explore.

No previous horseback riding experience is required; riding helmets are supplied. Weight limit: 250 lbs (113.4 kg) per person.

Totally worth it! 😁 - Our guide, Ellio, was extremely knowledgeable. The horseback ride included a lot of info about the surroundings, including types of birds and trees/plants. When we arrived to the Mayan Ruins, Xunantunich, Ellio knew a lot about the Mayan history. We loved so much we want to learn more about it. Great experience!❤️

Horseback Ride to Xunantunich Maya Ruins - Elio was an awesome guide on our horseback tour to Xunantunich Maya Ruins. Along the way, to and from the ruins, he pointed out many plants and trees that the Mayans used for medicine and in rituals. Elio knows quite a bit about the Mayan culture. It was very interesting getting this perspective of the Mayans along with the actual structures that they built. How they did that is Amazing. Elio also pointed out some animals native the the area as we rode through the forest. Iguanas, Howler Monkeys. Toucans @nd manny others were right along the horse trail. My wife rode Noah and I rode Ketura. These were very nice horses to ride. All in all it was a fantastic day of horseback riding and a tour of the Xunantunich Ruins. We would surely do it again and have told our friends about it. Thank you so much!!!!

Highly recommend! - We loved Maya Walk Tours! Horseback Riding to Xunantunich - The tour guides were very kind and knowledgeable. From giving us tips on how best to ride to sharing all kinds of info about the site. Just fabulous and so interesting! Cave Tubing - this was the perfect amount of adventure for us! Beautiful dip in crystal clear water, relaxing float down the stream, and a small bit of rock climbing and hiking in the middle. We went on a Monday which the tour guide said is their slower days since cruse ships come in Tuesdays-Thursday. So we almost had the cave to ourselves and it was fabulous! The tour guide was vary knowledgeable about birds, vegetation, and facts so we had a great time learning as well

History brought to life - We took our tour with Albert and he was AMAZING! He had so much history to share, it really made being in the ruins come alive. I highly recommend going with a tour guide. There are things be taught us about what we were looking at that I never would have guessed. Well worth it!!

The ruins are amazing - Karla is super knowledgeable and an excellent guide. Very attentive and took great care of our group. Would highly recommend her. The ruins are amazing and totally worth visiting. The horseback ride was ok but is targeted for a less experienced rider. The horse handlers did a great job and our horses were in good shape. Saw lots of iguanas along the ride and the view of the river was nice.

Ripped off by viator - The subcontracted company that provided the horse riding were excellent. But the advertised lunch that was supposed to be included in the price wasn’t. Maya tours told us that they do not offer this service and that Viator was responsible for the false advertising.
