Highlights

Meet at a small family-run farm in San Gimignano dedicated to the cultivation of grapes and olives and the production of wines and extra virgin olive oil. In 2000, the farm decided to convert all production to the organic method of cultivation, that involves the use of only natural products exploiting the natural fertility of the soil and considering the entire ecosystem. Since 2003, all products are certified organic.

The wine tasting venue is located within walking distance from the town center, in the beautiful surrounding scenery with a view of the towers of San Gimignano and the Vernaccia vineyard.

The activity starts by visiting the Vernaccia vineyard, the farm cellar and concludes with a tasting and Tuscan lunch.

The package includes:

Tuscan meal:

Appetizers: Tuscan Bruschettas with different sauces

Treat yourself - Great sommelier guided us through wine oil and balsamic choices. The paired food was amazing particularly the broccoli lasagne 😍😍😍 Perfect location less than a km from San Gimignano looking back to town over the vineyards

Highly recommend this if you are visiting Tuscany for the first time. - We had a great lesson in wines of the region and a fantastic meal. This included olive oils and balsamic vinegar. The parings were amazing and the service was great.

Great wine, great food, but no visit - The wine was excellent. We appreciated that it was from walking distance from San Gimignano. The food was excellent. The scenery was absolutely adorable. However, I would have appreciated a little visit of the facilities, were were brought straight to our table for the tasting

Just enough positive's to offset the shortcomings - First the good: The surroundings are lovely with a very nice view of San Gimignano. The lunch was sufficiently filling to qualify as a lunch and reasonably tasty. The availability of 5 different Olive Oils and 3 Balsamic Reductions made for lots of different combinations with the bread provided. Finally, the white wines were surprisingly good. After the lunch/tasting we took time to walk around San Gimignano which was an enjoyable experience. I'm not sure we would have gotten there if we hadn't bought this Viator activity. The not so good: The experience felt a little "salesy" to me, and the prices seemed a little out of line. We were not enamored with the red wines selected for our tasting. The winery seemed a little understaffed with the "Wine Educator" having to serve several groups. What we came to understand during our week in Umbria/Tuscany was that most of the folks who go to tastings are not from Italy. They are mostly tourists like us from the USA. On that basis, it might benefit wineries like Podere La Maronaia to better understand the customer's preferences.

Slightly disappointed - Having read the reviews, we were expecting more. The food was quite disappointing , nothing special and certainly no choice. The wine was actually exceptional and what we were expecting from a small organic vineyard. Even though the experience was private and in nice surroundings, I felt it was all geared around making sales to American tourists and the staff were more bothered about the sale than the experience itself. One thing to be aware of is that you can’t actually buy the wines to take away that day, only to ship by courier. We had an OK time so it wasn’t a bad experience , I just felt their hearts weren’t really in it and they could have offered more value and put a bit of energy into it !
