Highlights
  • Caral Archaeological Zone - Ministry of Culture - The Sacred City of Caral is located in the Supe valley, province of Barranca, 182 km north of Lima, in the north-central area of Peru. Because of its size and its architectural complexity, this is the most outstanding urban settlement of all that have been identified on the American continent from 3000 to 2000 B.C.
Caral extends over 66 hectares, and consists of a nucleus and a peripheral area. The former boasts monumental architectural structures, four kinds of distinctive residential complexes, residences of the elite, two sunken circular plazas and spaces for mass public assemblies. The area in the periphery has many housing units distributed rather like an archipelago, with islands of dwellings grouped the length of the terrace adjacent to the valley.

Additional Information

Join us to explore Caral, recognized as the most ancient center of civilization in Peru and across the Americas, with its origins traceable back to 5000 years ago. This historical marvel consists of 32 impressive structures, all part of a sophisticated network of habitats illustrating a profound religious belief system. The site includes ritualistic edifices, residential areas designated for various social classes, numerous smaller temples, and areas dedicated to the manufacturing of goods. Caral was the hub for a group of 24 additional, albeit less grand, settlements situated throughout the Supe Valley.
It embodies the intricacy and advancements in an initial form of socio-political and economic structuring during the Late Archaic Period (5000-3800 BC), autonomously developed by the Andean civilizations that settled in this lush, small valley along the central coast of Peru.

They truly cared…and made it stress free! - Felipe and his team took all the stress away and took amazing care of us…from transport to and from the airport and train stations to tours through Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. They made recommendations for flights, hotels and restaurants. It was so easy to enjoy!! They’re at the top of their game knowing the history, culture, architecture, agriculture, and food. More than that, Filipe truly cared for us…two of our group got altitude sickness in Cusco and he wouldn’t leave the hotel until they were safely in their rooms with oxygen. The next day he arrived with medicine and lime chews to make sure the group wouldn’t get sick again. Felipe became part of our groups family by the end. We wanted to come back in a week to do it all over again!

Fantastic tour of Ancient Caral!!! - This was an amazing tour and our tour guide, Felipe, was/is fantastic! His perfect English and vast knowledge of the ancient Caral civilization complimented tremendously the already fascinating time we spent traveling to/from the site. His expertise while at the site also helped us gain a deeper understanding of this ancient culture. There is still so much to learn about the original inhabitants of ancient Caral; however, the historical and cultural importance of this ancient civilization to the Americas cannot be overstated. Book your tour with Filipe if you want to ensure yourself a positive and worthwhile experience.
