Additional Information

San Antonio offers a variety of walking and paranormal tours, the majority of which are directed by costumed tour guides, who recount pre-written stories while managing a group of about 30 individuals, akin to herding a flock of sheep through familiar establishments.

I propose a different experience. A specialised, historical bar tour.

I’m Emzy. For over two decades, I’ve been familiarizing visitors with my hometown and I warmly extend an invitation to you to spend an evening with me, delighting in cocktails and engrossing discussions on historical topics at two of Texas’s most legendary bars.

After spending a short time in Alamo Plaza, we’ll make our way to the same bar where Teddy Roosevelt gathered a number of the renowned Rough Riders in 1898. Beverages in hand, we’ll then explore the oldest hotel in Texas, followed by another round at an additional local historical bar selected based on your preferences.

Cordial greetings, efficient service, generous servings, special access, exceptional research, and customized service are all part of the ultimate method to truly learn about San Antonio’s history and current times.

Please note, food and drinks are not included.

Location
Alamo Plaza
We will meet at the base of the large white monument (Alamo Cenotaph) in the middle of the Alamo Plaza. Your guide will be dressed in a black t-shirt that reads, "Drink up the History!" and will be wearing a blue messenger bag.
Cancellation Policy

Truly personal, informational, and lots of fun - Highly recommend this tour. Emzy’s vast knowledge of local history and extensive random knowledge of everything else made the evening highly informational and lots of fun. He tailored the experience to make it truly personal for history buffs like us. We loved it.

Six Sets of Five Stars - The biggest problem with this tour is all six who went on it wanted to write a five star review! Even though the weather was cold, our guide Emzy took time to answer all our questions completely and with flair. We were impressed with his knowledge, research, documentation, and presentation. Due to his knowledge and courtesy, we would recommend this guide and this tour to anyone interested in learning about San Antonio! We hope to come again!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Jam Packed with History and Fun! - We had an incredible time with Emzy as he took us through some historical places around Alamo Plaza. The Menger Hotel was beautiful and historic and its stories were amazing but I must say our favorite site was the St. Anthony hotel. Emzy is an entertaining guide with a wealth of knowledge from passionate research. He provides the stories, and can back each one up with photos and articles from the past. Truly fascinating stuff! And the cocktails were delicious!
