Duration: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights

This 2.5-hour walk starts with an exploration of Salzburg’s Burgher Town with its narrow, crooked little streets and the unique passageways of the so-called ‘Getreidegasse.’ Salzburg’s commercial center still retains its medieval charm, contrasting with the grand, spacious Baroque squares of the district where the Archbishops once presided over the city in their Residence.

We pass by Mozart’s Birthplace and the Festival Halls before reaching the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter, which dates back to 696 AD. Along with stories of Salzburg’s medieval salt trade and medical innovations, we follow the childhoods of Wolfgang and Nannerl Mozart, as well as the life story of the city’s other great musical son, composer Michael Haydn.

By the end of the walk, visitors will be familiar with our local customs and traditions, our cultural and political history, and our rich musical heritage. Last but not least, you will learn the true story of the global movie classic ‘The Sound of Music’s’ Trapp family, one of the most authentic refugee tales of the Second World War.

Magical Salzburg! - Lisa was a very knowledgeable and interesting guide! My wife and I were the only persons in our “small group,” so Lisa tailored the entire time to our interests! We had been to Salzburg previously, but more on a”Sound of Music” tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and the magic of Salzburg this time!!
