Highlights
  • Wadi Dawkha - Wadi Dawkah is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near the city of Salalah . It is known for its significance as a frankincense tree reserve and is often referred to as the “Frankincense Park” .This site is an integral part of the Land of Frankincense World Heritage property in Oman.

Wadi Dawkah is home to a large number of Boswellia sacra trees, also known as the frankincense trees. These trees produce the resin known as frankincense, which has been a valuable commodity for centuries, used in religious ceremonies, perfumes, traditional medicine, and more.

The site is not a traditional park in the sense of recreational areas but rather a protected area aimed at preserving the natural habitat of these historic and culturally significant trees. Visitors can explore the groves and learn about the history and cultural importance of frankincense in the region.

Overnight at the desert - First I need to mention that we didn’t book sunset tour, we wanted to stay there in a tent with the kids, so we booked an overnight stay at the desert. As a family of 4 with 2 children under 5, I wanted to make sure, that everything is covered, so that I can enjoy the tour without any tantrums. I was so affraid of that tour, I even mentioned to Mohamed (our tour guide) that it is really out of my comfort zone. But believe me or not it was a lifetime experience for both of me and my husband, and for the kids as well! If someone would ask me what not to miss in Oman, this tour would be my first choice, as this is that kind of experience, what you cannot have elsewhere. My kids were so excited about the sand dunes, they went up and down for like 1-1,5 hours. We were staying in a new camp, I think it was called Star camp, it was quite good, even with kids. As we were the only one family staying there, they made a bonfire to us, in front of our tent, where we could watch the stars. We got a delicious dinner, and Mohamed gave us some camel meat to taste. As he said it was a traditional way to prepare the meat, so we needed to try it, and boy oh boy.. I was so stupid that I forgot to buy some for my family at home. After dinner we went back to our tents, where the kids fell asleep next to the fire, me and my husband could experience this magic under the stars. It was so nice! In the morning you can have a great breakfast, and get back to Salalah. Mohamed was so kind to my little ones, he always bought some sweets and milk shakes to them. He even remembered, that I looved mango&grape juice on our first tour, so he brought a bottle for me as well. He made a lot of pictures from us, he could make my kids to sit down for a picture, which is usually impossible. He never missed any opportunity to talk about his country, and it was so good to hear that he loved his country that much! My husband works in the agriculture sector, so he was interested in the omani way of producing vegetables. Mohamed stopped for us a lot of times, so that my husband could have a look on the fields. If you searching for a tour guide in Salalah, don’t miss our dear Mohamed!

Unforgettable tour! - Thank you so much to the best guide Mohammed who showed me the beauty of the desert! We had an amazing trip together going to the empty quater. On the way we did a few stops, he showed me the famous francinsence trees and explained a lot about history. With his good sense of humor the time flied so fast and when we finally arrived, he found a stunning spot to watch the sunset. Just an unforgettable experience! Thank you soo much again & i really enjoyed every moment of this trip so much! :-)

Excellent - This was our second time visiting Oman. Mohamed worked with my itinerary as we booked 4 full days tours with Mohamed to visit the main key attractions of Salalah. As I did extensive research beforehand since we are a family with 2 children so planning each of our days was a fundamental element in order for our tours to run smoothly. The sunset desert tour was beautiful with a visit before to see the frankincense trees. We also covered driving in the sand dunes which was fun. Our guide took stunning family photos of us at the right moments when the sun was setting. Mohamed was outstanding in terms of professionalism, experience, expertise, knowledge, kindness, punctual and offering help and advice to us even after our tours. Mohamed offered his valuable time even during our visit to Salalah by offering us advice on our trip and answered and questions we had. Our Children were very comfortable and at ease around Mohamed at all times ,he would watch our children for a little while if we wanted to spend extra 10 minutes or so absorbing the beautiful surroundings and views around Salalah. We trusted Mohamed with our children at all times. All the 4 full days tours we covered were brilliant from start to finish and even with months of planning and researching we could have not completed these tours without Mohamed. Mohamed knew all the areas and provided vast information on historical elements within Oman. Mohamed also offered to take lots of family photos of us to hold beautiful precious family memories we made in Salalah as a family. Mohamed was extremely patient with all the needs of our children and very friendly and polite towards them at all times. Such an excellent guide. When we return back to Salalah inshallah (god wiling) we will be booking Mohamed as a guide once again and for all future trips to Oman.
