Where to go to the seaside in winter - Santa Maria is perfect for a holiday in winter, 27 degrees, even the sea temperature is right for diving in without problems, many little places to have a good dinner in the small pedestrian centre.

Great experience - Booked through tui pick up from hotel took 30 mins to get there. You can hire crocs for 3 euros when you arrive there. Be careful rocks are very slippy someone in our party fell and had to go to hospital. We saw lots of baby lemon sharks and a few fish. Water was nice and warm up to knee deep. There are a couple of stalls there people try to sell you things. Overall a great experience

Fantastic experience - A fantastic experience to see the small sharks swimming around your legs when you stand in the water. You rented shoes (foppatoffel) for 3 euros on the beach where you are dropped off. The stones are sharp and it is a bit difficult to walk on them in the water, so not recommended if you have difficulty walking. We went with the marine biologist Desmond who was very good and nice.

Shark bay - Good and reasonably long excursion with small children. Went to book car seats if you wanted them. Super nice guide who picked us up at the hotel.

Not crazy... - On the beach of our riu palace hotel in Santa Maria. Jason approaches us, he sells us this day as magnificent, beautiful things to see, a great experience... We let ourselves be tempted for €30/person. Bottom line... Disappointment. We are in the back of the 4x4 in the open air, we say to ourselves great we will see better than those who are inside... We saw that for sure... We saw dust, we ate dust. Bring glasses to protect your eyes. It's a desert island so imagine...we returned yellow with dust more than a shower to return to normal. 1st stop we had to go snorkeling with beautiful seabed... Nothing we look at 5' photos in front of "the lion" and we leave, we had taken our masks. Second stop the baby sharks, impressive but nothing more, bring sea shoes (sea urchins) because they give you fangs and then come and ask you for 3€/pair... After the salt where we float on the water. Entrance 5€ and after 1€ to take 1 shower. Meal break in a family restaurant.. Don't pay attention to hygiene.. We didn't eat!! Direction a mirage... Well not sure we can't get closer to check... Then blue eye, the event.!!!.. More than 1 hour of waiting to lean over a hole for 30 seconds, time to take 1 photo, a tourist trap.. When crossing the villages, we see poor people, devastated homes, children asking for water. It hurts my heart to see these Cape Verdeans so poor...
