Saint Emilion Guided Walking Tour: Explore the Beautiful Countryside and Local Vineyards
Saint-Émilion
Duration: 6 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • From the Square of the Bell Tower, you can enjoy an unmatched view over Saint-Emilion. The upper town’s town arms surround the original cavity. The Dordogne valley stretches over about seven kilometres (4.5 miles) wide beyond the town and leads to the Entre-deux-Mers hills in the distance.
  • Take in the spectacle of the church and the adjoining courtyard.
  • The King’s Keep served as a medieval surveillance tower. Join us to understand its construction process.
  • According to Émilion’s 8th-century legend, the same water source which erupted in the Hermitage feeds the 19th-century public basins. The laundromats put up a spectacle while washing or rather, rinsing their clothes here. The Fontaine du Roi, the larger and only roofed washhouse at the time, catered to the rich neighbourhood’s laundries, thereby protecting them from inclement weather. The working-class neighbourhood’s fountains had reserved the smaller, roofless Fontaine de la Place to prevent laundry water from intermixing between the two neighbourhoods. Now, the washhouses act as a pleasing, flower-adorned and refreshing halt in the lower city’s lanes.
  • Witness the striking gateway leading into Saint-Emilion
  • Pause to marvel at the quaint old medieval market place
  • One of the oldest and most well-maintained in France, this Romanesque wall narrates the prosperity and clout of Saint-Emilion’s citizens. It highlights the town as the second most influential during the 13th-century golden era in the Bordeaux region.
  • Embark on a vineyard tour featuring a wine tasting session of chateau wines, followed by a picnic.
  • Trek from the village to Chateau Godeau
