- Ranakpur Jain Temple - These temples from the 15th century have been remarkably maintained in nearly perfect condition for over five centuries. The vast basement spans 48,000 square feet. The complex includes four subsidiary shrines, twenty four-pillared halls, and domes supported by more than 400 columns. In total, there are 1,444 intricately carved columns. The artistically carved nymphs playing the flute in various dance poses at a height of 45 feet are captivating. In the assembly hall, two large bells weighing 238 pounds (108 kilograms) each create an echoing sound throughout the entire complex.
- Kumbhalgarh Fort - Situated on a hilltop 3,608 feet (1,100 meters) above sea level, Kumbhalgarh Fort features perimeter walls stretching 22 miles (36 kilometers) and measuring 15 feet (4.5 meters) in thickness. The fort boasts seven fortified gateways and houses over 360 temples, with 300 being ancient Jain and the remainder Hindu. From the palace’s roof, one can enjoy a stunning view of the Aravalli Range and the sand dunes of the Thar Desert. Legend has it that in 1443, the Maharana of Kumbhalgarh, Rana Kumbha, faced challenges in constructing the fort wall. A spiritual advisor suggested that a voluntary human sacrifice would resolve the issues. The advisor recommended building a temple where the head would fall and constructing the wall and fort where the rest of the body lay. Initially, no one volunteered, but eventually, a pilgrim offered himself and was ritually sacrificed. Today, the main gate of the fortress, Hanuman Pol, includes a shrine and a temple to honor this significant sacrifice.
