Highlights
  • Pedra do Sal - Pedra do Sal is one of the nicest spots in the area known as Little Africa. This cradle of Carioca samba has become a paradise for those who like to mix history with beer, youth, samba, and nightlife.

All of this takes place in front of a large rock with a carved staircase, Pedra do Sal, a heritage listed in 1984. The staircase gives access to Morro da Conceição. This area of Porto Maravilha is called Little Africa because it was a point of sale and exchange for slaves and shelter for quilombos. There, the salt from the ships that docked in the port was unloaded, the origin of the meeting of dockers sambistas.

Fun Christmas in Pedra Do Sal - I had a great time at Pedra Do Sal with Gustavo! He’s very kind and funny and makes sure you have a good time on the tour. I went as a solo female traveler and I recommend it for a safe outing with good atmosphere! Gustavo also walked me to my Uber. We went on Christmas and there was still a big crowd there for samba. There is also lots of food stands along with stands for alcohol so don’t worry about eating beforehand

Don’t miss Samba Night - Such a fun night! I’ve never experienced anything like this. It was a pack night, but so peaceful. I enjoyed an authentic experience. The tour host, Gustavo, was kind and accommodating. He kept in constant communication with the group and ensured everyone was safe. It was nice to learn the history of Pedra so Sal. This experience was worth the value!

The best night out! - I’m so happy I decided to do this!! It was such a great night out in Rio. The communication from the organisers, and the passion and enthusiasm of our tour guide, Lena and having such nice people in our group, really made the night that much more special than if I had gone by myself. Lena was an absolute treasure trove of information - from the serious history of Samba and Brazil, to translating lyrics for us to finding us the best drinks, I can’t imagine a more perfect guide for this night. We sang and danced all night - the atmosphere was truly incredible. We were right next to the band and surrounded by dancers and singers! We finished off with a greasy hamburger and chips before heading home just as the sun was coming up!! A spectacular way to finish my stay in Rio. If you love music and/or dancing, definitely include this on your to-do list!

Samba like a Local - This experience was my favorite part of the trip. My mom and I wanted to experience Samba with the locals but with neither one of us speaking a ton of Portuguese we were nervous to go wander around Rio to watch Samba. This let us see it with Lena, who is beyond knowledge about Samba and well as someone who is insanely compassionate about it . We had an amazing time !

Great night out if you're looking for a party! - Lena is a charming hostess. She gave us a fascinating insight into the area, it's history, her own history and her life, the nightlife as well as information about the flavella. The caprianha was delicious and the music, dancing and atmosphere was infectiously happy. Lots of cobbles and steps. You can buy food if you want to. Probably more appropriate for party people under 40 but if you only feel 25, go for it!!!
