Lao Cai – Coc Ly – Boat Trip – Bac Ha (Must be on Saturday)

Coc Ly Market - The cycling path from Lao Cai is relatively flat, taking you through charming rural landscapes.

In the final 16km of the first day’s tour, the terrain becomes more challenging.

The initial stop on the tour is the Coc Ly river, where you will board a boat for a scenic cruise along the Chay River. This journey offers breathtaking views of stunning caves and the serene life along the riverbanks.

Lunch will be served either on the beach or at Trung Do village, home to the Tay ethnic minority.

At Trung Do village, you can visit a traditional Tay house and enjoy a cup of tea. This is also an opportunity to learn more about their lifestyle through a conversation with the homeowner.

Bac Ha - After lunch, the afternoon tour begins with a cycle ride along a dirt trail through the village.

After crossing a narrow stream, the cycling route continues on a well-maintained road that ascends to Bac Ha town. Here, you will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and spend the night in a hotel.

Bac Ha Market - After breakfast and a morning coffee, the second day’s adventure starts with a short walk to visit the historic castle of the former Hmong King. Here, a local guide will provide insights into the history and development of the Hmong people, along with a panoramic view of the town. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture the tranquil morning scenes.

Next, you will head to the expansive Bac Ha market, the largest in the region, open only on Sundays. Upon arrival, you will explore the market, witnessing various ethnic minority groups in their vibrant traditional attire, such as Hmong, Phu La, Black Dzao, Tay, or Nung, and a variety of homemade products sold by locals.

Lao Cai - After lunch and a rest, the tour continues with a delightful bike ride around the picturesque and tranquil Ban Pho village, home to the Flower Hmong and Nung people.

You will then depart Ban Pho for Lao Cai, either by car or bike. If cycling, the route is mostly downhill and flat, passing through rural areas and villages of the Phu La, Nung, and Tay ethnic minorities. Before reaching Lao Cai, there is an opportunity to stop at the Vietnam-China border.

Upon arrival in Lao Cai, there will be time for a shower and dinner before boarding a night train back to Hanoi. The tour concludes.
