Highlights
  • Sapa Tour Indigo Homestay - Our journey begins in the morning, approximately at 9:30am, following your arrival at Indigo Snail Boutique Homestay, located in Ta Van village. Our expertise in ancestral methods will be imparted to you. Initially, we engage in batik artistry, providing you with two fabric pieces. The inaugural piece incorporates conventional Hmong motifs crafted with molten wax via a bamboo implement. For the second piece, you’re encouraged to express your creativity with a design of your choosing.

Subsequently, we delve into the art of natural indigo dyeing, immersing the fabric in a specially prepared vat. Patience is key, as the fabric must undergo multiple immersions with intervals of rest in between to enhance the hue and ensure the dye’s durability. The wax is eventually removed by boiling, and you’ll receive your completed works by the following morning or typically within 2-3 days. Should you not be lodging at my residence, I will dispatch the finished items to your Sapa address.

Savor a home-prepared meal with the family during lunchtime. Post-lunch, you’ll be introduced to the craft of Hmong embroidery, equipped with fabric and comprehensive guidance to embroider designs for a bracelet.

No prior experience with batik or embroidery is necessary! I’ll guide you through each step.

Textile Workshop

Vietnam’s 54 different ethnic minority communities are renowned for the incredible textiles
used to create different traditional dresses. The Red Dao and Black H’Mong in particular have some of the most
captivating, with symbolic patterned themes, intricate fabric embellishment, hand embroidery, and natural dyeing.
Join Black H’Mong artisans in Lao Chai Village for an introduction to hemp production, batik design, and natural
dyeing with indigo over the course of this full-day textile workshop.
You won’t go through all 41 steps needed to complete a design, but you will uncover the meaning behind some of
the most important H’Mong folk art symbols and sit down for a traditional H’Mong lunch.
