Thrills and Chills: A Family Adventure on La Graciosa Island
Eager to find a family-friendly adventure, I embarked on the La Graciosa Island Luxury Cruise with my kids. Despite the weather, the day was filled with excitement, exploration, and unforgettable memories.
Setting Sail from Órzola
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that can be both fun and educational for my kids. When I heard about the La Graciosa Island Luxury Cruise, I knew it was something we had to try. We started our adventure in Órzola, where the pick-up and bus transfer were seamless, allowing us to relax and enjoy the anticipation of the day ahead. The ferry ride to La Graciosa was an adventure in itself. The sea was choppy, and the wind was brisk, but for my thrill-seeking family, it was all part of the fun. We were advised to avoid the right side of the ferry to stay dry, but the views from our seats were spectacular, offering a breathtaking panorama of Lanzarote’s coastline.
Upon arriving at La Graciosa, we had some time to explore Caleta de Sebo, the island’s charming main village. It’s a place that feels like it’s been frozen in time, with sandy streets and a laid-back vibe. We found a quaint little café where we enjoyed what was arguably the best coffee of our entire trip, all while soaking in the gorgeous views. It’s a spot I would love to return to and explore further with the kids, perhaps on a sunnier day.
A Day on the Catamaran
Boarding the catamaran was a bit of a squeeze, as it was smaller than I had anticipated, and seating was limited. We found ourselves in a bit of a territorial dispute with another family over seating, but we managed to settle in without letting it dampen our spirits. The crew was fantastic, keeping the atmosphere lively and the drinks flowing. The sangria was a delightful surprise, and it was lovely to sip on it while cruising along the coast.
The weather wasn’t on our side, with clouds and wind persisting throughout the day. However, the swim stop at Playa La Francesa was a highlight. The kids were thrilled to jump into the water for a swim and snorkel, even though the conditions weren’t ideal for kayaking. The water was refreshing, and the experience was a great way for the kids to connect with nature and learn about marine life firsthand.
Sailing Back to Órzola
Lunch on board was a treat, with perfectly cooked paella that satisfied even the pickiest of eaters in my family. As we sailed back to Órzola, the sea was wonderfully rough, which added an element of excitement to the return journey. The crew played “I Will Survive” as we navigated the open water, and it felt like the perfect anthem for our adventurous day.
Despite the less-than-ideal weather and a few minor hiccups with other passengers, the day was a memorable one. The staff and crew were a credit to the company, making sure everyone had a good time. This cruise is a fantastic way to spend a day with the family, offering a mix of relaxation, adventure, and a touch of luxury. I look forward to returning on a sunnier day to explore more of La Graciosa’s timeless charm.
