We’ll arrive at the village of Tbisi through transit, from which we will embark on a round trip walk of approximately 7 km.
Nestled next to the Algeti Reservoir, you’ll find the Birtvis Canyons. Lost in a subtropical forest are winding routes and slender passageways enveloped by towering canyons giving off a mystic aura.
Our ascent, which should take us around ninety minutes (at a leisurely pace), includes a rest stop near the remnants of the ancient fortress of Deda Tsikhe.
The route to the summit is lined with the fortified walls of Birtvisi, riddled with gap-filled shooting holes, dual gateways and a lookout post.
The most prominent feature at the pinnacle is Sheupovari - a watch tower clearly visible from the distance. At an elevation of 1000 m, a naturally formed viewing platform showcases a panoramic view of the canyons, ancient structures and the mesmerizing Algeti Valley.
Post our descent, we have the option to enjoy a picnic on the grasslands or indulge in a meal at a nearby fish restaurant close to the Algeti reservoir.
