Highlights
  • Port of Rovinj - Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Rovinj, Croatia - hotel, cruise terminal, bus station, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
  • Postojna Cave - Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
  • Predjama Castle - The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

Great tour, fantastic experience! - Both my Fiance and myself had been travelling through Rovinj, Croatia. We saw this ad and thought this would be a great experience. We booked it and organised the pickup from the tour company. We were greeted by Dejan who was a local to Slovenia but still made the trip to Rovinj just to pick us up. Throughout the drive Dejan was explaining different places and the history behind why and what things were. We went through to Trieste to pickup another couple who were also doing the tour. Once they were with us on the way we all went to the caves. Unfortunately there was a little bit of traffic on the way to the castle so we only had 45 minutes to see it but you would only need about an hour to comfortably go through the castle. The views were splendid and very picturesque and the additional included audio guide is a must to listen to as it's very detailed with the history of the castle. After going through the castle we zipped 5 minutes down the road to start our 12pm tour at the caves. Being English it was a very quick and easy line to get into the caves. The first section is straight onto the train and after 2kms of traveling through the caves (10 minutes worth) and seeing the openings that the rock formations were showing we stopped and started a second section and 5km walk which goes for about another hour to 1.5 hours. Throughout the caves there is an English guide that explains everything to you with the different types of rocks, stalactites and stalagmites throughout the caves which is amazing to hear about! If you are an avid photographer or even just the standard point and click photographer on the phone make sure you have some sort of night setting enabled as the resulting photos are amazing. With the temperature in the caves also make sure to go in pants and take a jacket with you. Nothing too heavy as you will be walking. The coldest part of the caves is when you are on the train. After the caves though depending on time of year be sure to bring shorts with you to change into as it goes from 12 degrees Celsius to 30 almost instantly. After the tour was complete we drove back through Trieste and Dejan suggested for us to go to his local "most amazing icecream shop in Europe" which was in Slovenia. My word if you do go on the trip with Dejan make sure that you have him take you to this icecream shop. It was simply amazing! I recommend this trip to anybody and I'll definitely do another tour with Dejan and his company again in the future. Thanks Dejan for an amazing day out! Nathan and Nancy
