Highlights
  • Wild About Lapland - Korouoma is a 30-kilometres long and up to 130 meters deep canyon fracture valley located 110 kilometres south-east of Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year round, with its cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. This natural reserve is also home to rare species, and a great nature area for hikers.

In the wintertime, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations which are well-known for ice-climbing and a great attraction for tourists coming from all around the world.

Your guide will come to pick you up from your accommodation in Rovaniemi and will drive you to Korouoma Canyon, where you start your hike to the waterfalls. You will have the chance to observe some of the most spectacular frozen waterfalls in Europe and enjoy the beauty of snowy nature. A typical Finnish campfire snack will also be served around the open fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you his fire-making skills!

Snow spikes for the boots are optional but may be useful if you need more confidence when hiking down the canyon to the waterfall.

The excursion lasts around 7 hours and you will be back in Rovaniemi around 16.00.

White snowy hike - This tour is the complete package! First, our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of insight of the history of the forest and the waterfalls. He took pictures of us in all the best spots of the park and was always on the lookout of what we need it. As a bonus, during all our hike we had snow showers and that made the experience even more magical. Very fun tour and educational!

An unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Korouoma canyon - Janik and I spent two fantastic days with our guide Teemu and his wife Irma, the owner of the café at the entrance. It was built into a nice package that fulfilled all kinds of wishes we could imagine: - Hike (day 1) and snow-shoeing tour (day 2) with Teemu as a guide, explaining everything about the nature and history of the canyon and beyond. We enjoyed the landscape, it’s silence and learned a lot about it. We got so much more out of these days. It was pure joy. - The overnight stay in your kota was the best night of the one-week trip we had. Teemu took care of us to ensure that we were well fed (ok, with the help of his wife Irma), could enjoy the tent-sauna and had our privacy down in the canyon. It was unforgettable. - The food was simply gorgeous. Irma loves cooking traditional dishes based on the best local ingredients. One can’t eat better in any 5-star restaurant. The saying “the way to the heart is through the stomach” becomes true especially as it is combined with two very warm-hearted people! Thanks for letting us have this experience.

Fabulous hike - This hike was incredible. We were lucky with fresh snow but even luckier to have the most fantastic guide, Guille. Guille was so enthusiastic, very knowledgeable about the geology, the flora and fauna and demonstrated how to prepare and light a fire using bark and a flint - which we then used to cook our sausages. One member of our group, who had asthma and a dodgy knee, found the climb out of the canyon rather difficult and wished the notes had suggested bringing poles.

Great impressions on a hike with little effort - The trip was well organized. We were a small group of 8 people. The path to the canyon was quite difficult in places. But it was still doable thanks to the spikes provided. There are also safety ropes at the most difficult corners. But the great views and the rest with sausages and hot drinks just before the last climb made us forget the effort. All in all, it was a great day.

Love it! - Beautiful trail across snowy forest and near ice falls. Picturesque scenery. The trail is very steep in first part, good snow shoes are must. It's definitely worth seeing

An enjoyable experience - This was a wonderful tour! It was very well organised. We were provided with warm winter clothing, boots and crampons before the trip. The drive there took 1.5 hours. Our guide, Ale, was very knowledgeable about the forest and stopped at multiple points to give us a lot of interesting information. She was a very friendly guide and we loved having her. The canyon visit itself was a somewhat easy 5km round trip hike (but slightly steep walk at the end). We stopped at the end for a lunch prepared by the team (consisting of two sausages on potato bread, marshmallows and hot tea). Then we drove back and were back by 3.30pm. I do think if you have your own car you can probably easily do this canyon trail on your own (there were quite a few locals also doing the trail and it is well marked) however if you don’t have your own transport this is a good tour to take :)

Recommended excursion with this agency - Excellent excursion. The waterfalls are a spectacle of nature and our guide, Bozo, made the whole adventure very fun, creating a spirit of harmony with the whole group, and at the same time very educational, illustrating various curiosities about Lappish nature. The route is very doable, in some sections super fun; there is only one slightly more challenging climb just before the end of the route. An experience definitely not to be missed in Rovaniemi, which I suggest doing with this company, also because the groups are a maximum of 8 people and this makes everything more liveable and fun!
