Highlights
  • Wild About Lapland - Your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the perfect peaceful place. You may have a short 5-10 minute walk through the old arctic forests before you finally reach that immense open area made of ice and snow. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your hole in the ice and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice-fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you. \n\nYour guide will always be there to assist you, in case you would need help or feel cold. While you will be fishing, they will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shores for you. Some typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire. This offers a convivial opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we will quickly return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.

Additional Information

Our Ice Fishing Adventure provides an opportunity to unwind amidst the tranquility of Lapland’s natural surroundings while participating in a conventional pursuit enjoyed by many locals. This adventure takes you to a frost-covered lake near Rovaniemi. The chosen spot for ice fishing not only provides promising chances to make a catch, but it also allows a rejuvenating escape to restore peace of mind. Several local people continue this winter activity as a means to procure food for themselves and their pets as well as to savour the calming solitude of Lapland’s environment. For all our ventures, we put a cap on our groups to a maximum of 8 participants. We maintain this limit to ensure you a premium experience and to prevent overcrowded tourism. This smaller group size enables your guide to know you better, cater to your requirements, and respond to all your inquiries. As the saying goes - the smaller the group, the grander the experience!

Nice Experience - We've not seen any fish but I was not expecting to catch something. We appreciated the surrounding, the small size of our group, all the tips and curiosities out guide (cannot remember the name, the Croatian guy) shared with us, this was the plus of this tour!

Good experince - I was with my 13 yrs old son on the ice fishing tour. It was not the ultimate fishing experience but more of a frozen lake drilling, sight seing and camping. Our guide was Guilla, very nice guy, informative, helpful and great host. We had a good time with a lot of nice pics and videos. Make sure to have solid winter gear, especially boots.

Fun experience in the forrest - A very nice afternoon experience. Our guide was Barbara, she was friendly and easy going and she had a lot of patience with our kids. We didn't catch any fish, but it was fun to be on the lake and we had a great barbeque with sausages and mashmellows.

So much fun - even without any fish - Ice Fishing was so much fun - although we didn't catch any fish... It was an amazing experience learning how to drill through the ice and sitting on a frozen lake in the arctic landscape, followed by a very nice barbecue.

Must try - Ice fishing and snowshoeing adventure! - We signed up for the ice fishing tour and thankfully had a free upgrade to snowshoeing + ice fishing! It was -20 degrees that day and we can’t imagine being out in the frozen lake fishing (and not moving) for hours! Snowshoeing took about 45mins and thereafter we went to a nearby lake. Our guide, Gabo, taught us how to drill a hole in the frozen ice and do fishing. He also demonstrated how to start a fire without a matchstick and cooked snacks / prepared hot drinks for us! Highly recommend and a must try Arctic adventure : )

Ice Fishing - This is fun little trip, but just a taster or introduction to Ice fishing so don't expect too much! its a 25 minute drive there and back, with a short trek from the vehicle to get out into the frozen lake. After drilling your hole in the ice and getting set up, there's approx. 1 hour to fish. Then you can warm up in the tepee and cook sausages over a log fire. Our Guide Emily was very friendly and helpful. Overall and fun morning and good experience.

Ice fishing - Our guide was really knowledgeable and very friendly. She explained the afternoon activities very well and we had a nice time. I think perhaps the location and shallow part of the lake we fished wasn’t ideal.
