Our guide, Tom, born in... - Our guide, Tom, born in Rotterdam, knows very well the town and its history, that he shared with us. We had the chance to visit some particular buildings, otherwise not accessible without Tom.

Architectural wonder - Beautiful cubical houses. Its a must visit place in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Nearby the cube houses there is a big complex of restaurants.

Architectural tour of Rotterdam - We toured in July 2019. The tour spent a little bit too much time in an office building with a view and unfortunately we were the only English speaking guests thus 80% of the tour was in Dutch. There was an assistant with our tour guide that could have repeated what the guide was saying but for some reason was reticent, didn't want to upset our guide. I pressed her for descriptions anyway and that improved our experience some. Once we took the Watertaxi to the Cube Houses (which was super fun albeit brief) our guide was able to find an English speaking tour guide with the same company for us and a blended us with another group. This was extraordinarily helpful and improved our experience immediately. Our new tour guide who spoke English perfectly made the Markthal tour fun with little details about the building and the shops within. The large outdoor market that resembled a flea market was huge and enjoyable to walk through. I hope the tour company reads this review so they can add on their booking sheet language spoken. We wouldn't have signed up for this one had we known it was all in Dutch. At the very least take the reservation and rearrange the start destination with the English speaking tours that started at the Cube Houses instead of the business building. That will make it less frustrating for both the tour guide and the attendees that speak a different language than the majority.

Cube houses - style over substance ! - The cube Houses are a distinctive feature of central Rotterdam , and an architectural experiment. One of them is open for visitors, and well worth a visit. Undoubtedly intriguing, the cubes are positioned at an angle on top of ‘stalks’ containing the access stairs. Interesting and brave, but terribly impractical .....
