- Groothandelsgebouwen N.V. - Upon exiting the station, you’ll see the Groothandelsgebouw, which was Europe’s largest building when it opened in 1949. It stands as a symbol of Rotterdam’s post-war reconstruction.
- Hofplein - We will stroll across a seemingly ordinary roundabout, but for Rotterdam’s residents, this spot holds a special significance, particularly related to football.
- City Hall Rotterdam - Discover one of the few buildings that survived the war in Rotterdam: the town hall. Who are the statues? Let’s explore their stories.
- Timmerhuis - OMA - The Timmerhuis once housed the institution responsible for the city’s post-war reconstruction. The building itself represents the blend of old and new that defines Rotterdam.
- Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk - Near the modern Market Hall stands a 14th-century church. Its tower remarkably survived the bombing of Rotterdam. Today, it serves mainly as an event venue. You’ll learn about the church’s history and Erasmus, a notable figure born here.
- Markthal - This building is a city icon. We’ll enter the impressive Market Hall (Markthal), where the two sides house numerous apartments, and inside, you can savor foods from around the world. Don’t forget to look up at one of the largest artworks on the planet! Inside, we’ll sample some Dutch cheese.
- Cube Houses - You may have already noticed the cube houses, but now we’ll walk beneath them and even enter one. Discover if living there is comfortable.
- Willemsbrug - We’ll head towards the river Maas, near the red bridge. This area witnessed intense fighting in May 1940, before the city’s bombing. From here, enjoy a clear view of Rotterdam’s stunning skyline and the opposite riverbank.
- Boompjeskade - From here, we’ll board our own water taxi (fast yellow boats for small groups) for a 45-minute tour on the river Maas, offering a fantastic view of the skyline and part of the port of Rotterdam.
- Old Harbour - As we move away from the river, we enter the Old Harbour area, where Rotterdam’s port began in the 15th century. Today, it’s a lively spot for drinks or watching old ships being restored by hand, with the actual port (Europe’s largest) just a few kilometers away!
- Witte Huis - We’ll approach the river to see the Witte Huis, the most prominent building in the Old Harbour area. This is Europe’s oldest skyscraper, dating back to 1898. Learn about its significance to the city, and if you look closely, you can spot remnants of German bullet holes! Your guide will share all the details.
- Rotterdam Blaak - We’ll now head underground to the UFO-shaped train station Blaak. From here, we’ll take a direct train to Delft city center (17 minutes).
- Station Delft - Delft Railway Station - From Station Delft, we’ll proceed into the city.
- Armamentarium - We’ll walk along Delft’s oldest canal. In the city’s southern center, we’ll pass by a large former weapons armory of the V.O.C. Discover more about Delft’s role during the Dutch Republic’s golden era. Nearby, we’ll also see the exact spot where Vermeer painted his famous ‘View of Delft.’
- Vrienden van de Synagoge Delft - On our way to Beestenmarkt square, we’ll pass by Delft’s old neo-classicist synagogue, as we stroll along another of Delft’s charming canals.
- Maria van Jessekerk - The newest church in Delft’s city center, only about 150 years old. It’s a Catholic church, which wasn’t allowed before that time. Notice the church’s two distinct towers.
- Beestenmarkt - On this former animal trading market square, Beestenmarkt, we’ll pause for a well-deserved lunch. Today, it’s a popular spot among locals.
- Nieuwe Kerk - We’ll see the Netherlands’ second-highest church tower, home to the royal family’s grave. The church dates back to the 14th century but has endured significant damage over the years. Learn more about it! If you’re up for it, we’ll climb the tower (370 steps).
- Stadhuis van Delft (City Hall Delft) - Delft’s old town hall is one of the city’s most important historical buildings. We’ll pass by it as we leave Markt square on our way to the Old Church. What’s so fascinating about the town hall? Your guide will explain.
- Old Church - After leaving the market square and passing by the butter house, weighing house, and Anthony van Leeuwenhoek’s old house, we’ll head to the old beer brewing quarter to see the Old Church, Delft’s leaning tower. Johannes Vermeer is buried here. But why does it lean? We’ll find out.
- Museum Prinsenhof Delft - Opposite the Old Church is the Prinsenhof, a former monastery. This site played a crucial role in Dutch history, as the Father of the Fatherland was assassinated here in 1584. Learn more about it.
- Gemeenlandshuis van Delfland - As we walk along the Oude Delft canal, we’ll see Delft’s oldest house. It now features a heavily decorated facade, as it has housed the Water Board since 1645. What is this, and why was (and is) it so important?
- Markt - We’ll return to the central Markt square, where an electric tuk-tuk (three-wheeler) will be waiting to take us to the Royal Delft Museum.
- Royal Delft - Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles - We arrive at the only surviving original Delft Blue pottery factory, established in 1653. Here, you’ll enjoy an audio tour of the museum and the operational factory. Afterwards, visit their shop and café before a tuk-tuk takes you back to Delft (to the city or the station).
- Markt - You’re back in Delft, with the evening ahead. If you’d like to dine or have a drink in Delft, everything is just a few minutes’ walk away. Assistance with planning your evening is available if needed.
If you booked the ‘with pick-up/drop-off’ option, you’ll be returned to your hotel or another location of your choice afterwards.
