Used by local Maori for over 800 years, open and clean your skin by lathering it in the unique mud, before exfoliating and cleansing with a soak in the sulphur spa. While you relax, take the opportunity to admire the geothermal reserve. Your body and soul will feel revitalized after this soothing experience.

- We recommend that women do not use our bathing facilities whilst pregnant. However, it is an individual’s choice and we recommend that you seek advice from your health professional if you are wanting to bathe.
- Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- The minimum age for the Mud Bath is 2.5 years, and for the Sulphur Spa is 6 months.
- Children are considered those aged 5 -15. Under 4s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Hell's Gate is located just outside of Rotorua's city centre. From the city simply travel east on State Highway 30. At approximately 5 minutes past the airport, you will turn right towards Whakatane. Hell's Gate is 3kms down this road.

Natural wonder of sulphur city - Our tour guide T was humorous and told stories of each pools . I learnt a lot about this historic and natural wonder of this town . The mud bath to end the trip made it even more memorable . Remember to book free shuttle from Rotorua

well worth the visit and time and money spent - Well it was smelly of course but so very amazing to walk amongst the geothermal pools and then go into the mud bath and spa!

Must do while in New Zealand - This is a must do for visitors to New Zealand. A great mix of Maori history, geothermal tour, carving and bathing in the Mud/Spa pools.
The tour guide was the perfect mix of knowledge and entertainment. We intended to go for 90 minutes and left 4 hours later.
This has been a real highlight of our North Island trip.

Great experience - We got there first thing in the morning and it was amazing. Felt invigorated all day. The mud bath followed by the different temperature pools was relaxing.

Best tour guide - Fantastic tour with a amazing guide! Ngatiroirangi not only guided us around the grounds, he entertained us with his wealth of knowledge, fabulous sense of humor, and kind heart! The spa experience was a perfect end to an interesting walk.

Mud Bath Experience Rotorua NZ - Good experience. The mud bath was good, and the hot spring pool also was relaxing! Would recommend to a friend. Skin felt softer after mud bath.

A bit of fun, walk and bath.. - Walk around the thermal springs , read up on facts about how they occur .
And then spend 20 mins in the mud pools, which are good for you, and finally wash it off and sit in the thermal spa ..

20 min? - You only have 20 min to put on and take off mud. Not enough time to understand what's going on, put on the mud, and let it dry... the primary benefit of the mud bath.

Not worth the money, not very personal - This was cool to experience but def not worth the price. It’s a 40 min experience max and not very lavish as you are in the mud and pools with lots of other people. It also stains your costumes. I highly suggest buying the ammonia wash they sell (but don’t let you know they sell) to remove any stains out of your costumes. I also think the towels should be free considering the cost of the spa. The staff working there were all so lovely and friendly.
