Rome, August 13, 1943. Amidst bombings in the San Lorenzo and Pigneto districts, a bomb is dropped directly onto a factory on Anaximandro Street. Astonishingly, the bomb fails to detonate. It’s considered a divine intervention. An image of Madonna graces the outer walls of the building, accompanied by an enduring plaque pleading ‘Have mercy on us’. Today, at 15 Anaximandro Street, stands the Ellington Club exactly where the ‘miracle’ took place. The club is an art and entertainment hub, a sanctuary for souls. ‘The Miracle Kabarett’ is born here, a cabaret of souls on the brink of salvation, depicted in a musical and choreographic montage that spans from Kurt Weill to Lady Gaga, reflecting our individual and shared past and present.
