Housing a vast assortment of Greek and Roman relics from various aristocratic families of the city, Palazzo Altemps is one of the four structures that make up the National Roman Museum. Connect with your highly-rated guide, a trained archaeologist, at the main entrance to understand how this palace was established as a museum in 1997 with the aim of showcasing archaeological discoveries, and over the years how it expanded its collection to include sculptures, marble statues, and mosaics. Pay attention to the breathtaking murals enhancing the walls and ceilings as you meander through the magnificent edifice.
The Ludovisi Collection is home to several of these artifacts. Key exhibits include the stunning Ludovisi Throne, a chiseled marble slab featuring a nude Venus, and Bernini’s remarkable restoration of the Ares Ludovisi and the Gaul’s Suicide. The museum also presents a significant collection of Egyptian art and sculptures, some of which originate from Egypt. The structure encompasses an enchanting courtyard complete with a lovely loggia and its own chapel, Sant’Aniceto.
