Highlights
 • Villa Adriana - This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens.
 • Villa d’Este - We will leave the alluring ruins of the 2nd century A.D. far behind as we travel on to the 14th century to our second destination, Villa d’Este - one of the most beautiful Renaissance villas in Italy. This splendid palace, with its extraordinary gardens filled with hundreds of fountains, will leave you feeling captivated. Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Not to say that the Central Fountain and the Oval Fountain won’t leave you equally in awe.

Be prepared to keep moving - We would never have done this trip under our own steam and so were delighted to share time with a rather large group. However, the guide was very informative and we covered a lot in a short time. Perhaps that was one of the downsides. There was a definite feeling of being rushed through both Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este. We would have like some additional free time to explore. Both are worth a visit. We were awestruck by both even though we have previously visited Pompeii and Forum. Bus was comfortable, visit to Tivoli for lunch good. Summing up, we we happy and tired at the end of the day. Warning: there is plenty of walking and steps to navigate. There is mobility support at Hadrian’s Villa and a lift at Villa D’este.

A great tour with a knowledgeable guide - Giuseppe was a lovely guide. We were lucky there weren't many people at Hadrian's Villa, so we got to appreciate that expansive area what felt like to ourselves. Giuseppe's magic book helped visualise how the Villa looked in the past. Tivoli is a beautiful town and we had a wonderful lunch (not with the tour). Villa d'Este is a beautiful mansion and the gardens and fountains are just outstanding. It was a great contrast to see how cool the gardens were compared to when we were at the Villa. A great tour with a knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend this day trip.

Well worth the day trip - This was a wonderful day tour. Could not have asked for better. Hadrians Villa was amazing and well worth the drive out to it. Villa d'Este left us speechless. Design commenced in the 16th century. Views back across Rome incredible. There were hundreds of fountains - absolutely spectacular.

Our guide, Giuseppe, was wonderful... -
Our guide, Giuseppe, was wonderful. He lives in Tivoli, as has his family for the last 500 years, so he was extremely knowledgeable about the area as well as the two places we visited, Hadrians Villa and Villa dEste. Although it was a long day 7 hours it went very quickly and I actually would have liked a little more time at the two places. Giuseppe also recommended a restaurant for lunch which was very good. One note, and this is indicated in the description, if you have mobility issues, believe them when they say there is a lot of walking and much of it is up and down. There were several people in the tour group who had a difficult time with the walking although they all made it through. I would highly recommend this tour when youre tired of the frenetic pace of Rome and want a day trip outside the city.

Canceled us the day before due to overbooking - Was messaged the day before that our reservation was canceled due to overbooking. They asked if we could come another day, I said no and please refund credit card. Suddenly, we could keep our booking, but messages were confusing and we were trying to figure out what to do. I said ok, but the group was upset and feeling unwelcome, so I later canceled. They finally wrote back later the next day, long after the tour started, to say I would not be refunded. A huge mess that they caused and could've been avoided if they had first ASKED if we could change our tour date instead of going straight to telling us our tour was canceled and then changing their minds when I wanted my money back. Incredibly unprofessional and I will be contacting my bank when I return home.
