Highly Recommended - Our guide was great. Apart from being very knowledgeable, she structured the tour in a way that brought the historic perspectives to the fore, which made for a broader experience. Most enjoyable!

Meeting Bernini - Terrific tour of Borghese, only wish it had been longer — as listed in the tour details. The tour was scheduled for 5:45-7:45, but the museum closed at 7:00pm, so it wasn’t a 2 hour tour. Either way, the guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Do before Vatican - Mattio is a true art history buff. He clearly is a pro at this. Do this tour before you go to the Vatican if you can! Learning about the Borghese Family in a more intimate setting is a wonderful precursor to the Vatican crowds.

Borghese Gallery a highlight - This museum is probably the biggest surprise in all of Rome. Where else does every room have a jaw dropping masterpiece? On the first floor almost every room is centered around a major work by Bernini. No one has anything on Bernini. He is the master of making marble look fleshy and in cinematic motion. If you walk to the gallery, going through one of the portals to the old city and through the park you arrive at a large, but by the standards of Roman imperial buildings, a modest sized villa. The small scale is emphasized even further because you enter through what was the basement. Unless you have already seen pictures you have no idea that you are about to see Baroque art on steroids. The ceilings, the walls, the floors are covered with decoration, but everything is lit so well that the sculpture and some significant paintings still stand out in all their theatricality. Some reviews mention that the second floor pales compared to the first, but I don't agree. It was interesting to see how the art was hung to become increasingly more intimate, and a bit salacious, as you walk to what was presumably a bedroom. The building has been sensitively modernized and includes a round elevator that is perfectly squeezed into the center of the circular servants stairway. You must get tickets in advance. We were there in May and tickets were sold out a week in advance, so summer would be really difficult. But the good thing is that while they limit you to 2 hours (which is plenty of time) the rooms are not jammed. There were people, but not so many that it didn't give the work room to breathe and to be appreciated and even ogled if you like.

Get a valid email with your ticket! - Vendor never emailed me my tix. Information Desk generously worked very hard to approve my entrance. I had no time to get audio for art pieces. Beautiful, interesting and learned a bit, overhearing other tour guides.
