- San Pietro in Vincoli - San Pietro in Vincoli (Saint Peter in Chains) is a Roman Catholic church in Rome, best known for being the home of Michelangelo’s statue of Moses, part of the tomb of Pope Julius II. San Pietro in Vincoli was built during the fifth century to house the relic of Saint Peter’s chains when he was imprisoned in Jerusalem. The Basilica San Pietro in Vincoli is well worth visiting not only because of its unique decoration and Michelangelo’s massive statue of Moses, but because it is unlike any other Roman church.

Join us on our tour of Italian art, tracing the path of three renowned sculptors: Bernini, Borromini, and Michelangelo. We begin our journey from our base at Via del Cardello 31, and our first stop is the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, where Michelangelo’s stunning Moses sculpture awaits. Created in 1513, the imposing figure of Moses is depicted in serious contemplation, one arm supporting the tablets while the other strokes his flowing beard.
Then we move on to the Campidoglio, one of Rome’s famed seven hills.
The next destination is Piazza Navona, a symbolic masterpiece of Roman squares. Known for its trio of fountains, we take special note of Bernini’s esteemed The Fountain Of The Four Rivers, as well the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone.
Finally, we make our way to the Piazza di Spagna. While it’s most famous for its staircase, for this tour, we will give prominence to the Barcaccia fountain, the stunning centerpiece of the square.
