Highlights
  • Vatican Museums - Skip the (always long) lines into the museums, diving right into the galleries holding some of the most famous works of art in the world. Your expert, English-speaking guide will offer eye-opening insight and context (along with some great stories) as you explore the Belvedere Courtyard with ‘Apollo Belvedere’ and ‘Laocoön and Sons’, the Pinecone Courtyard, the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Gallery of the Tapestries. Visiting after the daytime crowds have left, you’ll appreciate the extra space and silence to appreciate the magnificent artwork in the Museums.
  • Sphere within a Sphere - Inside the peaceful Pinecone Courtyard you’ll pass a spectacular bronze globe. It was designed for the Vatican by well-known Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro and copies of it can now be found all over the world, including Dublin, Tel Aviv and New York City.
  • Sistine Chapel - Then head to the Sistine Chapel just before closing time for a peaceful experience with just a handful of other visitors. Before entering, your guide will explain the stories behind the creation of these iconic frescoes as well as what they mean. When you enter, you will then be able to appreciate the full majesty of the room, spotting the little details and quirks that most people miss.

Tour of the greats with a expert guide - I have been to the Vatican Museums quite a few times but took the tour to have my guest start to know it in a concise but extensive enough way. Jeb our guide did a great job of explaining and taking us to the historical highlights and also explains Sistene Chapel

Not to be missed - The closing time Vatican Museums Tour was well worth while. Kylie, our guide, was exceptional. She really made it a great experience with not only her immense knowledge and enthusiasm, but also how she seamlessly guided our group through the crowds with care, patience and efficiency. Whilst it still seemed busy to us, earlier in the day is apparently far more crowded, so the closing time tour is a worthwhile option.

Great tour with wonderful tour guide - Francesco was the perfect tour guide for this in depth tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. He was informative and has a wealth of knowledge, but was also entertaining and had a great sense of humor. The tour involved a lot of walking and the Vatican Museum is vast, but Francesco kept the pace comfortably moving forward and ensured we saw a mix of the most iconic exhibits and things that were new to all of us. We would love to do another tour with Francesco!

Bucket List Didn’t Disappoint! - Amazing tour with Frank and Walks! If you go, look into how to request him. He was vastly knowledgeable about the history and art and kept us entertained with info during our relatively short wait times. Definitely go on the first tour of the day. Even just an hour later and the lines were eternal in the Eternal City. Climb to the dome was nice but shouldn’t have spent as much time up there as that only left us 10 minutes to take in all of St Peters. Was not nearly enough time so would plan that differently. Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel were awe-inspiring and Frank was the difference maker here. His knowledge of art history made the place come alive and we felt very fortunate to have him guiding us. The Sistine Chapel was amazing and we took our time and moved around the room to try to take it all in from every angle. Be patient and find a seat on each side. But we should have done more research before going so we could appreciate all the different aspects. It’s A LOT and spectacular!

Good overview of the Vatican - This was a thorough tour of the Vatican museum and the Sistine chapels. Our tour guide was Hillary and she provided a good overview of both sites. At times, I felt that the tour was rushed, but that was mainly because of the museum staff, not the tour guide.

Not perfect but pretty good - The tour was good but it’s not accurate to call it skip the line. You still wait in line, it’s just early. Not enough time in St. Peter’s. Too much time in the Vatican Museums. The tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and interesting.

Afternoon Tour of Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel - While the tour covered the highlights of the Vatican Museums, it was obvious that it would take days and days to do them justice. Even so, the tour didn’t leave sufficient time to see the Sistine Chapel. The guide took more time explaining the paintings in the courtyard that we were able to spend viewing the paintings before being ushered out at closing. While I realized the tour would not be entering St Peter’s Cathedral, I was surprised not to even have spent any time in the plaza between the museums and the cathedral.

Disappointed, Skip the Tour - Booked this as a way to see the Vatican Museum during our honeymoon. We were very disappointed in the tour - you would be better off doing the museum on your own. The tour consisted only of the statues and ancient marbles, tapestries and the Sistine Chapel - that’s it. While our guide was knowledgeable, the tour didn’t start for almost an hour past the meeting time, which dramatically cut into our time in the museum. Because we had to wait so long for bathroom breaks of others on the tour, most places in the museum were open only for a short time once we got in. The tour guide completely skipped the Raphael Rooms with no mention (which is listed on the tour as a site visited). What we saw was so limited compared to what is in the museum and we had no time to see other sites within the museum. Had I known I would’ve skipped the tour entirely and gone on our own thru the museum since there is so much we will now not see during our stay in Rome.

More insights please - For the price I was expecting a tour guide with more insights to share. More then “In that room there are many important works of art of great importance” . He told a few stories but I was expecting more. And not reading information right out of the pamphlet word for word!!! Come on!!!
