Great experience - Affordable and efficient. I’m travelling solo from Australia and I enjoyed this quick tour. Got to see all of the main attractions. The driver Cinghiale and hostess Carla were very friendly and welcoming :)

Ship tour, hop on hop off bus, Rome Italy - I have used hop on hop off in many cities. The service is always a good experience. In italy, in particular the hop on hop off presents some additional challenges. The port of Rome is about 1.5 hours to Rome. The ships tour connects with the hop on hop off at stop 4. You will have about 6 hours to use the hop on. Hop off. Probably enough time to see the Vatican museum, trevi fountain and possibly the coliseum. Before returning to the ship which is about 1.5 hours back to the port. It is extremely important to buy tickets in advance, with skip the line option.

Simple way to get close to most major Rome attractions - We bought a Turbo Pass for our visit to Rome. This noted that it included the 'hop on / hop off bus' ticket for 48 hours. We saw large red buses labeled that way, so on our 2nd full day when we were ready to return to our hotel, we found the ticket office near a stop and went in to show them our documents. They informed us that they no longer worked with Turbo Pass (this changed annually) and that another similar bus line, IOBUS, was the one we needed. They politely directed us outside to a nearby stop. The bottom level was fully enclosed with windows; the upper deck had a roof, but did not have windows. It was fine if the weather was decent / warm. The bus (with 3 colors, to distinguish it from the other similar companies) pulled up to the stop. We showed the conductor our papers and got a 48-hour ticket. We were also issued some cheap wired earbuds with which to plug into the in-seat audio ports. You could select a language and (theoretically) the volume. The volume controls were marginal in my case. I listened to the audio for most of our trip (around 1/3 of the loop around the city). It was okay, with some decent descriptions of the historical relevance of some sites. We got a map also, and were thus able to find a relevant stop the next day in order to re-board the bus and get to a point reasonably close to the Pantheon. The Rome subway lines are basically a large X, and do not access a major section of the heart of the city. I can somewhat sympathize with this; how hard would it be to dig a subway tunnel here without unearthing so much historical debris that construction would get shut down? If you are adventurous, you might be able to navigate city bus routes. I assume those penetrate the areas not served well by the subway. However, the IOBUS was a good option for us during the 2 days we utilized it. If you had to pay the full price without it being included in a larger package, that might be a different proposition. The route of this and similar buses does get you close to almost all the major sites in Rome. You may have a 5 to 10 minute walk at worst, but you can find a stop nearby. The subway only gets you this close to a few places, but is further from most others. Depending on your budget, the IOBUS may be a fair alternative to taxis or Uber. Do your research on pricing before you go.

Seek Another Bus Tour Company - Our experience with this bus tour was awful!! I would never use this business again. Wait times were advertised as 8 minutes between buses. On average, we probably waited 30+ minutes between buses. Other competitors had 3 buses come in the time our 1 bus finally showed up. Individuals in charge of keeping order and assisting customers were rude or inexperienced. I would highly encourage using another bus tour company.

Avoid. Waste of time. - The bus stops waste so much time. We sat for 20 minutes at multiple stops. We wish we would have avoided this entirely.

IO Bus Rome - BAD. We had to wait 20 minutes at each stop while the bus driver and steward were watching movies on their phone. We saw so many red City Sightseeing busses pass us. We usually take the red hop on hop off busses, and we wish we did this time too. We missed our Vatican tour because it took WAY longer than it should have to travel between stops. Super disappointed.

Total chaos with IOBUS company - I've recently visited Rome and went with IOBUS as this was the first one we came across. I would NOT recommend this company at all. We waited over an hour at stop number 6 (Sant' Angelo) to get on as it was total chaos. We waited at the correct bus stop but the rep told the driver to move up, which meant everyone charged forward. We realised we wouldn't get on and went back to the correct stop, by which time another que had formed. This happened 3 times the first day and twice the next day. When we eventually got on the first day, we didn't get off. Which meant the next day we only saw the Spanish steps and Trevi fountain and ended up walking from one to the other, rather than go through that again. All the other bus companies where less busy and didn't seem to have any problems as they were more organised and we think they had a red & blue line. Where as IOBUS was all on the one line !! We normally travel with City Sightseeing and wish we had this time too.
