Excellent Northern Lights tour! - Wonderful Northern Lights trip with expert Northern Lights seeker and photographer. He is a local Icelander with a real passion for helping people see the Northern Lights and capture it well on our phones. Even though it was relatively low activity if the lights, we had some beautiful views and photos. Highly recommend!

Amazing tour guide! - A big shout out to our tour guide João, he is so energetic and humorous! He did such a great job making our trip so much fun! Everything would be better if more tour guides were like him! An 10 out of 10 experience!!

Amazing - The tour is really recommended, even if we were losing hope to see the northern lights, the guide was able to keep high our moral. In the end we were able to see the northern lights! In addition our guide explained to all of us a lot of stuff about Iceland (not only related to the northern lights), and he was always available to answer to all our questions. Thank you Haukur! You made my day!

01/28 NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR W/ HOT CHOCOLATE - We did the Northern Lights Tour 01/ 28. I have to give it up for the guide that night. We were out searching for the lights for maybe 2+ hours and finally were able to see them around 12-1AM. We had a storm that could've ruined the experience first half but he kept trying until the end! There were some dissapointed vocal members on the bus, but he kept his spirits high, sharing insights into the weather and Iceland in general. When we saw the lights he took some beautiful photos of each person/group and the hot chocolate in the end was WORTH IT! It was very cold. Haukur

Went twice, first guide was amazing, second guide very underwhelming… - First night was fantastic, second night very underwhelming… We went on two of these tours after having a fantastic time on the first night with Jake. The lights were active, but not crazy and Jake was fantastic at making sure we drove to numerous locations to get the best chance of seeing the Northern lights and even tried to find us locations where mountains would be blocking the moon for the best view! The vibe on the tour was extremely up beat and fun, and Jake really seemed to care about everyone having the best possible experience! We did a tour the following night and whilst the lights were still active and visible the experience with the second driver was underwhelming. The location chosen by the guide was 15 minutes from the city and still had visible city lights and close by building lights as we seemed to be in a carpark filled with sheds and a giant pipe running across the field. The guide seemed as if he couldn’t be bothered moving to any other locations and wanted to get home early meaning that the majority of the experience was spent sitting in a stationary bus. We did ask about whether we could move locations and the answer was that we didn’t need to and we would be staying in this location for a few hours. Of all the places we had seen in Iceland an industrial carpark was not a very aesthetically pleasing location and it made it difficult to capture pictures of the night due to building light and industrial sheds/pipes obscuring the view. We had a great experience seeing the Northern lights overall, but the attitude by the guide on our second trip did not live up to the experience we had on the first night! If we had’ve only gone one the review would’ve been 5 stars ⭐️

Unreliable - As we understand that seeing the lights might or might not happen, before our booking we let the business know we would only have two nights to try, and emailed them again right after the tour had ended, yet when we didn’t see them and we asked for the second try (as per policy) they ignored us for 15 hours and then informed us at 1pm on the day that they wouldn’t take us again. Not fair and not helpful at all, nor worth it when there are dozens of other companies with better customer service and availability.

The northern lights that didn’t happen - Went on a girls trip to Iceland and saw the amazing reviews for Troll Adventures. Booked the northern lights tour with much anticipation. Unfortunately there was a blizzard on the initial night we booked to go. No big deal figured the next night would be fine. However nature had other plans and another blizzard hit and we got stuck 2 hours away. As the reviews and comments have all been so positive we stayed in communication with Troll as we were hoping to do the make up night 2. Our jeep was stuck in the snow and we weren’t set to get back to town until almost midnight. We made a request to see if we would be able to move to the following night as these unforeseen circumstances had arrived. What was unbelievable was the rude response we got. Don’t get me wrong if they said sorry we are full or made some sort of effort to work with us would have been lovely, instead it was well too bad. Kept our money and sent a general email baiting us to leave feedback. Honestly I was shocked. We had to spend more money and book on another tour. I don’t know how this happened with all of the great reviews. Wouldn’t recommend if you are booking during winter as weather happens.

Dead Before It Even Started - Save Your Money, Go with a different outfitter, and make sure you READ the fine print. We booked with this company based on the stellar ratings. Unfortunately on the night of our tour they had to cancel due to the weather (which is ok given the time of year). They asked if we would like to reschedule to the next night and we said yes. We knew this was a risk given we had an all day tour but it historically almost always gets back at 8 over 1 to 1.5 hours before the northern lights tour leaves. Unfortunately several hours into our day tour we were hit with a massive blizzard. In fact the majority of norther lights tours from other companies on our bus were all cancelled We contacted Troll expeditions very early to ask them if we could shift to the next night, explaining that we couldn’t help the blizzard and that originally we had scheduled with them on a night where we had no conflict. They wouldn’t work with us at all and made it clear there would be no refund. Not to mention when we discussed how this appeared from a customer service perspective they got very snappy. Definitely go with someone else for norther lights tour. Weather is always an isssue in Iceland and they will not make any expectation—-other companies do we have seen it multiple times on the trip!!

bad - Took a 4-hour Aurora tour at the beginning of the year. Note that they take one hour to pick up and drop off passengers, and two hours to drive on the bright road, so you only have an hour or so for the real tour. It was a cloudy day, and many aurora tour groups I knew had canceled, but Troll still insisted on setting off. The driver remained silent for most of the time, choosing to be near a bright church as the main viewing point (full of light pollution). In the end, we saw nothing unsurprisingly. I joined aurora tour in Norway. In addition to aurora chasing, their tour guide will provide many other services such as storytelling, but there is almost nothing here. If you are in Iceland, there is no need to join an aurora tour. You just need to go to Reykjavik Lighthouse on your own. If you are lucky, you will see it.
