Highlights
  • Glymur Waterfall - Glymur waterfall is a beautiful waterfall, located in a canyon in Hvalfjörður Fjord. It falls 198 meters and used to be the highest waterfall in Iceland. Due to warming, a new and higher waterfall has appeared. The drive from Reykjavík to Glymur waterfall is about 1 hour. On the way we pass a beautiful landscape of the Hvalfjörður Fjord. The hike itself is about 3 hours and we hike along the river and the canyon to where Glymur is located. On the way there is a tree trunk over the river that we will cross. The hike from there to the viewpoint is sometimes very steep. The view from the top is amazing. Remember good shoes, warm clothes, rain clothes and your camera! A challenging hike with some high cliffs. Not suitable for people afraid of heights!

Tough but 100% worth it!! - This was breathtaking quite literally and metaphorically. This climb is HARD, there are areas where you need to cling onto ropes, pull yourself up and go through water. However, the view from the top is out of this world. The first river crossing, with the log, is manageable. Second river crossing is much deeper than it looks and is FREEZING - so be prepared for numb feet/legs!

Great hike at Glymur - We had an amazing time hiking Glymur today, thanks to a fun guide who took us all the way across the river and down an adventurous path on the other side and a lovely, funny group, who were very understanding and nice about my occasional struggles with the steep ascent. Thanks for making the trip so fun and memorable! The waterfall and surrounding landscape are gorgeous and a stunning sight, great trip overall.

Awesome!!! - Two friends and my wife and I toured Iceland with day trips from Reykjavik. Five of the days were spent using different touring companies and the rest with a rented car. We experienced so many awesome sites that it is hard to select what was the top event, but the scaling of Glymur Waterfall with Helga from Travelling Iceland was right up there. Originally the Glymur hike was on our agenda to go on our own with the rented car but I was feeling somewhat concerned of this hike because our friends were not experienced hikers. We decided to change our plans and went with Helga. It turned out it was the best decision we made while in Iceland. As a PhD Geologist, you won’t find anyone more knowledgeable of Iceland’s geology. As a tour guide you won’t find anyone more caring and capable. It turned out one of our party dropped out halfway through the hike. She shepherded him back down and then returned to meet us on the way to the top. As for the views of the falls, I do not believe I have the ability to put into words. To do it justice, one requires a poet.

An amazing experience. - The hike up to Glymur Waterfall can be challenging at times, but every step is rewarded by spectacular views and sights to behold. Helga was an amazing guide who was always very accommodating and made sure everyone was comfortable. She's a great source of information for all things Iceland and Geology. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found out about this excursion and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great day trip in Iceland.

Glymer Falls-beautiful falls in a serene and peaceful location - Be prepared for a lovely, long, challenging walk high above even the nesting sites of the birds-Helga is a wonderful guide and enjoyed the walk as much as we did! I am very happy that I found her. A true environmentalist and very knowledgeable
