The Jewish tour of Recife and Olinda is a very special experience for those interested in learning more about the presence of Jews and New Christians in Recife, Pernambuco, in the 16th and 17th centuries. The historian guide will take the traveler to see the main landmarks of the Jewish presence in Brazil. The traveler will learn about the Brazilian colonial economy, the socio-religious culture of the Brazilian people and the European wars that brought Portuguese Jews from Holland during the 17th century. In the city of Olinda, the traveler will visit some of the main churches, markets and streets from the colonial period, as well as the main vestiges of the Marrano presence in Brazil in the 16th century. In the city of Recife, the tour will take place in the historic center where most of the Jewish community was concentrated during the Dutch period of the 17th century and will also visit the first public synagogue in the Americas.
