Great visit - kids will love! - Excellent place…cool experience. We have been to another mystery spot elsewhere. This was one just as good. Our guide, Cordelia, was great! She was so good w/ the group…and handled a very large family being slow and dragging behind very well. Highly recommend! Kids will love it!

Definitely a Mystery! - It is definitely a Mystery! Would have to think there is some strange magnetic pull in the area. Defies logic, some could just be optical illusion, but there is definitely something different. If you have balance or equilibrium issues definitely think carefully before going on tour. Tour guide was fun and energetic, Merit was great!

Mystery Challenge! - You need to visit this gem of a family attraction in the Mt. Rushmore area! We had a fun and intriguing 40 minute tour with our terrific guide Maggie. Enjoy the beautiful wooded area and the challenge of figuring out the mystery. There's some big steps along the path with plenty of railings and places to rest. Finding and cutting a geode makes for a pretty cool souvenir! There's fun and learning for all ages at Cosmos Mystery Area. Highly recommend!

Fun but short. - Cool place. Been there before and remember it as being a longer tour. My husband said the same thing. Of course it's gotten way more expensive which is to be expected but it just didn't seem long enough to be worth the amount that we paid for it. The guide was great full of energy our youngest granddaughter absolutely had a blast it was just quick. We also searched and broke geodes and panned for gems out of one of those bag things you buy and that was that was a lot of fun too. Enjoy the visit just thought it was pricey

A second time around… - This was the second time we had been to the cosmos, the first being 20 years ago. We took the grandkids and they really enjoyed it. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is the guide who took some of our pictures didn’t do a very good job. He cut the heads off of the group or had his face in the middle of the picture. I didn’t check all the pictures until after we had left.

Pricey. Kids like it. - It's ok. They run a tour every 15 or 20 minutes all day. As such, there is always a tour ahead of your group, and another right behind you, as the guides herd their groups to each spot. Visitors are assigned to a time slot with a group of about 25-30. On a weekday in early June, it was about a 45 minute wait until our tour began. The tour guide was very enthusiastic and animated, and it was entertaining, even though it's more about physics than mystery. The site contains various optical illusions that make it seem as if people and objects defy gravity - balls roll backward, etc. Visitors walk up a fairly steep trail to some designated spots that appear level, but in fact, are not. This creates the illusion of height differences depending on the side each volunteer stands on. Further up, the group enters a small shack built at a steep angle. This creates the illusion of a gravitational force as the body naturally leans downhill. Children and adults seemed to enjoy it. The tour itself lasts about 35-40 minutes. I visited a mystery spot in California as a child, and naturally, it was a lot more fun (when I believed it was a location with a mysterious gravitational force) than now as an adult. It was pleasant enough, but there are so many more impressive things to do and see in the Black Hills area. If you're willing to throw down $20 per person for a family activity, your money would probably be better spent at one of the nearby cave or mine tours, adventure parks, or that bear country park. Other visitors really raved about this place, though, so if you like illusions, or you think your kids will be wowed by them, then this is a fairly quick activity that can be squeezed into less than half a day.
