  • Ranua Zoo - We will pick you up from centrally located hotels in Rovaniemi or Santa Claus Village and head out to Ranua Wildlife park, the Northernmost zoo in the World! Entrance fees are included in the price, so all you have to do is sit back and relax for one hour until it’s time to meet the animals. The zoo is located in the Ranua Wildlife Park, where animals feel like at home. Way better than we thought - Exceeded expectations. We were driven to the zoo (1hr) in a private minivan by our guide. When we arrived our guide went inside and organized all of our tickets and confirmed our lunch reservation. He led us through the zoo, helping us spot all the animals and showing off his expert knowledge with lots of fun facts about each animal. The polar bear, reindeer, wolves, arctic fox, wolverines and owls were all very active the day we went (lucky us!). Obviously during winter the brown bears were hibernating and not visible. Lunch was a buffet of reindeer roast, onion soup, steamed veges, mashed potato, salad, vegetarian lasagna and berry juice (delicious!). It was very busy the day we went but our guide made sure we have 3 tables reserved for the 9 of us in my group. We also had time to go to the gift shop and the chocolate shop (Frasers) We then drove out to a secluded cabin in the woods. At this point only myself and my partner were dropped off as the others in our group only booked the half day zoo tour (big mistake for them). Our new host showed us around the traditional wood fired sauna and ice hole in the frozen lake. Once she gave us all the safety instructions she left us alone for 1hr 45 mins to warm up in the sauna then dip in the lake. There was no pressure to do the lake, you could just cool down in the cold -8° air, completely up to you. We dipped in the lake 3 times. After time was up we were invited into the hosts cabin for dinner. The interior was decorated in such an awesome cozy Christmas way. She had prepared a lovely dinner of smoked salmon, potato’s, traditional bread, salad, warm gloggi and gingerbread cookies for desert. It was an amazing meal. Afterwards she drove us back to Rovaniemi and chatted to us about the towns history and answered all our questions about Finland. Overall the best tour we have done so far. Highly recommended.

Super amazing. - We had an amazing day tour. It was perfect from start to end. They picked us up on time to go to the zoo. We had an amazing guide very knowledgeable of the animali and finnish history. We had a big buffet lunch with many options and we spend the evening relaxing in an authentic sauna and eating a smoked salmon and veggies for dinner. 100% percent recommended. It you think of coming I suggest to bring an extra towel as the ones used to dip into the lake might get really wet and an hairdryer for the ladies as it was not present.

Great for 1-day trips! - Tania was our guide - she was very friendly, forth-coming and actively engaged in conversations. She explained a lot about the culture and tips on how to best enjoy Rovaniemi. We had a short schedule, but we made the best out of it, thanks to Tania and Alex.

Amazing Adventure!! - Alex was friendly, knowledgeable and so kind. We enjoyed every aspect of our adventure! My favorite was when we arrived at the lake. Floating in the icy waters (in dry suits) was so relaxing and meditative, looking at the pristine forests surrounding us. Followed by the authentic sauna and jumping into the icy waters was so invigorating- we did it 3 times! The excursion ended with a fabulously prepared salmon dinner that was smoked and served with fresh vegetables, bread and potatoes. Warm cider and gingerbread cookies for desert. It was the most fun I’ve ever had on a tour! Highly highly recommended!

If you have the full day available . JUST DO IT - We were very fortunate to have an intimate guided tour ( just me and my partner ) with our guide Pedro who was very good from start to finish . I reccomend the full day because we had time to see things , and never rush to finish pack and move on to the next part of the tour . At lunch we had time to get know each other and talk friendly about Finland/Lappish culture , and for dinner after the Sauna/Lake experience we had the most intimate dinner of our life cooked to perfection at the little house by the lake . Pedro with his experience was always professional , fun to talk and very knowledgeable.

Great Lapland trip - Extremely professional and organized tour by Mr. Alex and his wife. After booking, Alex replied to all our concerns; on the day of the pickup, he arrived on time and drove us to the zoo. Briefed about the animals, had lunch at the Zoo restaurant. We then went to his place with a hot sauna and dipped in ice-cold water. We enjoyed the new experience. After sauna and ice dip, Mr. Alex's wife cooked for us a tasty late lunch or early dinner. Grilled salmon with homemade bread, cookies and berry juice along with vegetables Overall all went smoothly, and we had a significant time spent with Alex. We started at 9 am and returned hotel around 0530pm. As there were only two of us, the trip was super comfortable and we enjoyed.

Experience of a lifetime - One of the best tours we have booked. The Ranua zoo was incredible but the best part of the day was the sauna and ice dipping experience. Tanja and Alex were simply amazing and Tanja's salmon so delicious. Highly recommend this tour and Nordic Adventures.

Rejuvenating experience - This was a well-paced tour that gave a really good experience of the Finnish Lapland. It began with a tour to the zoo. Alex took us there and gave interesting information about the animals and the zoo. Then he took us to the cottage for the second half of the day where we met Alex and Tanya, both of whom were friendly and told us lots of information about life in Lapland. The place around the cottage was pristine and beautiful with a lovely lake. The traditional Finnish sauna was also quite an experience, especially if you are planning to take a dip in the lake in between. After that, we had some delicious dinner served to us. I have taken many pictures on the trip. But I don't think I will need them as the experience will be fresh in my mind for years to come.

Magical and romantic - First we were guided by Alex through the Ranua Zoo, he offered many insightful facts about the animals and even Finland/ Lapland in general. Then we ate lunch at the zoo which was in the form a buffet which was tasty. Then he drove us to their cabin where we got to experience ice floating with his wife. We then enjoyed the sauna which we had all to ourselves and then also experienced ice dipping. Ended the day with a delicious dinner by the fire place. All in all Nordic adventures helped us experience the most amazing day. They are both very very sweet and knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to have had the lake/ cabin/ sauna all to ourselves which I must say was the most romantic setting I have ever experienced. I would highly recommend to book this tour to get an insight of the lappish life.

If you come to Rovaniemi, definitely do this! - Amazing experience. The zoo trip was really nice. The snowy landscape was breathtaking and we were able to watch a bunch of nordic fauna including wolves, owls, moose, wolverines and a polar bear. The lunch was ok. The second part of the trip was truly marvelous (and a must do!). We were brought to a private property with noone in sight for 3 km. The combination of the hot traditional Finnish sauna, which can get up to 100°, with the freezing cold of the snow and frozen lake, in which you can swim, was exceptional. To top it all of, an amazing cozy dinner of smoked salmon and other Finnish delicacies prepared by Alex and Tania who were extremely caring and chill hosts. Totally recommend.
